It is for the purpose of consumption, and for the sake of benefiting future disciples, when the teachers who compiled the collections closely gathered the holy Dharma, they initially established the introductory words such as "Thus have I heard," relying on the teachings of the Teacher himself. So, who is the teacher who compiled the collections here? In the Sutra on the Inconceivable Secrets of the Tathagata, it says: "Secret Lord, glorious Vajrapani, in the past, in their respective ordinary states, when the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon manifested perfect and complete enlightenment and turned the wheel of Dharma, I held the vajra in my hand and vowed to protect the bodies and holy Dharma of all these Buddhas. Thus, he became the Secret Lord, and in order to protect the bodies and Dharma of the Buddhas of the present, so that the Dharma would not decline, he made the close gathering." Furthermore, in the Vidyadhara Pitaka Vajrapani Empowerment Tantra, it also says: "In the past, he was known as the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra, and all the Buddhas unanimously blessed his mindstream with the five-pronged wisdom vajra, and entrusted it to his hand, and he generated extraordinary form and courage, and from his previous state, he transformed into another appearance, appearing to people and being called the Secret Lord, glorious Vajrapani, etc. He extensively taught and compiled the Vidyadhara Pitaka, and also compiled the Sutra Pitaka other than that, so the teacher who compiled the collections here is he." This is the explanation of the former teachers. Another explanation is that when the Tathagata showed the manner of passing into Nirvana, his attendant, who was also known as uncle in worldly terms, the Venerable Ananda, who possessed great learning, was struck by the arrow of sorrow. To this, the Tathagata said: "Do not grieve, for in the future, the collection of the holy Dharma will fall upon you. Therefore, at the beginning of compiling my sutras, summarize with phrases such as 'Thus have I heard,' and at the end with phrases such as 'The Blessed One spoke, and they greatly rejoiced.'

Because the Bhagavan bestowed the oral instructions for compiling the Dharma, and also heard a great deal. When he attained the fruit of Arhatship at that time, Mahakasyapa and others said: 'Where did the Bhagavan speak the Sutra of the Wheel of Dharma?' 'Great wise one, please speak.' 'Son of the Sugata, please speak.' After they requested, he compiled the Dharma with 'Thus have I heard,' etc., as stated in some scriptures. Furthermore, in the chapter of entrustment in the Noble Eight Thousand Verse Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: 'This Perfection of Wisdom will be practiced in Jambudvipa, thus twice and three times I entrust it to you, Ananda.' Therefore, it is also explained that the Perfection of Wisdom and other Great Vehicle scriptures that are in accordance with it were compiled by the Noble Ananda. Also, in some collections of Vidyadharas, it says: 'The expounder is also me, the Dharma is also me, the listener who possesses his own retinue is me, the object to be attained by the world teacher is also me.' And so on. Furthermore, it is said: 'E vaṃ māyā'i yi ge bzhi (Sanskrit transliteration) (Sanskrit Devanagari) Four letters of Maya's Evam (literal meaning in Chinese)', which shows the obstacles of the Dharma, etc., generates the accomplishment of the pure Buddha, Vajrapani is inexpressible, this is what I have taught.' Therefore, it is also said that the compiler is the Tathagata himself. If that is the case, wouldn't these be contradictory to each other? No, Ananda is the glorious Vajrapani, as stated by Acharya Chandrakirti. Therefore, when compiling the Vidyadhara Pitaka, he appeared in the form of the Lord of Secrets, and when compiling the Sutras, he appeared in the form of Ananda, so there is no contradiction. Here, the ultimate meaning is the Tathagata himself, even if the Lord of Secrets and others are Bodhisattvas who are different from the Tathagata, but due to the blessing of the Tathagata, they generated excellent Dharani and eloquence and compiled, so it is said to be the Tathagata himself. Another explanation is that the Tathagata possesses inconceivable manifestations, in order to take care of the sentient beings they tame,

That which emanates and gathers the appearance of form, thus, the gatherer should reasonably be the Tathagata himself. Here, it should also be understood that the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, in the commentary of the "Glorious Kalachakra Tantra," arranges the introductory words such as "Thus have I heard," which are the words of the Tathagata. However, it is unreasonable to say that everything arises from the throat and palate, becoming an external nature, and is expressed in a single language. If so, it would not become the word of the omniscient, as it is said. The meaning of this is that the word of the omniscient is: the language of the gods, the language of the nagas and yakshas, as well as the language of the kumbhandas and humans, and as many languages as there are of all sentient beings, I have taught the Dharma in all languages. As it is said, the speech that arises from the cause of the lord of wisdom, appearing according to how the disciples believe, is the nature of their own minds, and not the nature of external sound, because it is unreasonable for one thing to have contradictory aspects. Therefore, when the appearances of body and speech are emanated in accordance with the disciples' thoughts, in some places, the language of the gods is shown as "ཨེ་ཝཾ་མཱ་ཡ་(Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning)." And when, on the north side of the Sita River, in the land of Champaka, the Dharma was taught in the languages of hundreds of thousands of cities, it was gathered and taught with "ཨ་ཀར་ཥུ་ཁུཥྞ་ཀ །ག་གན་ཀུ་(Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning)." Similarly, on the north side of Rugma, in the land of Rama, the Dharma was taught in the languages of hundreds of thousands of cities, as follows: it was taught with "ཨ་ཀ་མ་ལ་སད་ཏ་བ་ལ་ད་(Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning)." In this Sutra Pitaka, the expression of teaching the Dharma is not fixed, because it is said that in some worlds, the Dharma is taught without blinking, and in some worlds, the Dharma is taught by moving the eyes. In the Sutra of the Collection of the True Dharma, it is said, "Monks, you should collect the holy Dharma with 'Thus have I heard,'" which is in reference to some aspects, so there is no contradiction. Thus, the other "Thus have I heard," etc., are the words of other collectors, so they are not the words of the Buddha.
