Obtaining cracks, and being reborn in good realms through discipline, etc., should also be believed and accepted by following this principle. If external objects do not exist, but the relationship between actions and results is established based on the appearance of body and speech, then in states such as dreams, will merely the appearance of killing, etc., accumulate karma and produce a ripened result? If asked in this way, even in that state, driven by afflictions such as attachment and aversion, one thinks that one should kill other things like Lhachin (divine offerings), and therefore it appears that one is wielding a weapon, and it even appears that the thing has died. When one wakes up, the subsequent consciousness repairs the seed of the previous mind, saying "It was not done well," and in this way, a little karma is accumulated. However, this is different from the state of being awake, although there is no difference in the driving intention, in the actual situation, there is no situation of connecting the mind stream of other beings with the feeling of suffering, etc., and it is because one is in a state of being deluded by sleep. As (Tsongkhapa) said, "The mind in a dream is weakened by sleep, therefore the results are not the same." The protector of the ten bhumis (Tsongkhapa) also said this, and the Prajnaparamita Sutra also extensively explains the same principle. Regarding killing illusory people, etc., "Because there is no mind, there is no sin," showing that there is absolutely no sin, because one recognizes that it is only an illusion, and there are no driving afflictions and thoughts of killing, and in the subsequent state, there is no joy in it, because one recognizes that it is only an appearance, so there is no fault. If that is the case, because there is no difference in obstructing the objects of all knowledge of other sentient beings, the appearance of forms, etc., in states such as dreams, and the appearance of water in a mirage is not valid cognition, while the appearance of water in rivers and pools, etc., is valid cognition, so it is unreasonable to distinguish between valid and invalid cognition, if asked in this way. That is also true, but here, when some people seek water because a mirage appears as water, because they do not rely on the habits of delusion, there is no occurrence of encountering water and drinking to satisfaction, therefore it will be destroyed.

One should not rely on conventional terms, and such a mind should be regarded as an illusion. Therefore, it is not a valid cognition (pramāṇa). Furthermore, when rivers and the like appear as water, a person seeking its meaning enters into it, and because the habit of illusion is firm, appearances such as encounters occur, and thus it is regarded as a valid cognition (pramāṇa). In this way, merely in terms of convention, the distinction between valid and invalid cognition in the aspect of other-awareness is limited to just that. Some differences in dreams and the like are also similar to this. Moreover, in some states of dreaming, when sounds such as songs or forms such as music appear, and when water and the like appear, the desires of the person seeking their meaning are completely fulfilled, and when they appear as drinking to satisfaction and the like, there is no difference from the waking state. In that case, one might wonder why attachment to objects does not cease. Furthermore, if external objects do not even exist conventionally, then the Blessed One's statement that "form is characterized by being destructible and breakable," and so forth, the characteristics of the aggregates of form, and the inner and outer sense bases are said to be corporeal matter. As it is said in the Noble King of Samadhi Sutra: "The eye, ear, and nose are not valid cognitions." and so on, and "If these faculties were valid, what would the noble path do for anyone? Therefore, by nature, matter is unstated." it is said. Furthermore, in the Noble Ten Bhumi Sutra, it is also said that "a Bodhisattva abiding on the tenth bhumi knows all the atoms of the realms of the world." If external objects do not exist, then such knowledge would become an illusion. Therefore, it would contradict the scriptures. Furthermore, the measure and the differences in the forms of the container world of beings are spoken of. If external objects do not exist conventionally, then it would contradict what was said. If one asks, there is no fault, because both the existence and non-existence sides are spoken of in the scriptures. The way of the scriptures is to be determined through the four intentions and the four hidden intentions, as Lord Maitreya said. And if these are summarized, there are two types: direct meaning and indirect meaning. Among these, the indirect meaning is valid cognition (pramāṇa).
