In short, merely saying "the subject is refuted by the power of reason" does not negate its appearance as a subject, because, as before, it would become the agent of valid cognition of objects. Furthermore, to speak in this way clearly shows a lack of understanding of the function of valid cognition, so wise individuals should distance themselves from and abandon it. Moreover, merely appearing as a subject does not become a bondage of signs, because it is said that the Tathagata also has similar post-attainment appearances. Furthermore, if one were to deny that which merely appears as a subject, it would contradict direct perception. If it is said that worldly direct perception does not deny that forms and so on appear to exist, but rather denies that this itself has the meaning of supreme reason, conversely, that which appears in the face of reason is not established by worldly direct perception, because all beings would see that very suchness. If this is said, it is unreasonable. If that is the case, is the nature of this appearance existent in the face of reason, or is it not? If it is the former, then how can it be negated by valid cognition? Because, as previously stated, it would become the agent of valid cognition of objects. If it is the latter, then the subject that appears externally and that which exists in the face of reason are not the same entity, so even if that which exists in the face of reason is negated, appearance is not negated, just as negating a horse does not negate an ox. Similarly, it will be taught in this sutra: "Great wisdom, the entity of a cow is not the entity of a horse, and the entity of a horse is not the entity of a cow, but these two are also not without their own characteristics, these two have their own characteristics." Similarly, "Great wisdom, all dharmas are also not without characteristics, they exist." Similarly, all dharmas should also be understood as emptiness, unborn, and without self-nature. Its meaning is also that all dharmas abide in their respective natures, so they are not self-negating, therefore, even the subject that merely appears, even though it is empty of the real existence of reason, is not without the nature of merely appearing, just as a cow is the thing of a horse.

Just as a mat woven with ropes is hollow, but it is not that there is no nature of a cow. If, as it appears here, from the perspective of reason, there is a true entity shining, then that is the negation of appearance, because negation is related to appearance. If you say so, that is not right. If that were the case, negating the very existence of a cow in the nature of a horse would also become a negation of the cow, because the negation is related to the nature of the cow. If you say that the cow and its existence in the nature of a horse are not the same, so even if the existence in the nature of a horse is negated, it will not become a negation of the cow. Then, this is the same as the previous point. Furthermore, according to the opponent's view, for a phenomenon like sound, negating that it is permanent would also become a negation of sound, because negating that sound itself is not permanent is related to sound. If here, a phenomenon like sound itself is permanent, then as it is, valid cognition cannot negate it. If the phenomenon itself is not of the nature of permanence, then sound and permanence are different from each other, so negating permanence will not become a negation of sound. Then, the point at hand is the same as what was previously stated. If that is the case, then the point at hand is that of mutual emptiness, which is the view of the tirthikas (non-Buddhists), and it will become the very meaning that emptiness is the worst of all, which will be explained later. There is no fault, because the phenomenon that appears, whether it is an external true entity or something other than that, existing in entities such as knowledge, and non-existence, all the extremes conceived in the mind will be gradually negated. Therefore, it prevents the seeds of all afflictions, and by preventing the seeds of afflictions, the afflictions will also cease. Therefore, this is the path that will definitely lead to the attainment of omniscience. However, the mutual emptiness that the tirthikas and others believe in is not like that, so it is clear that they are not the same. Here, abiding only in appearance, empty of true meaning, and understanding it as such, no one will become bound. Furthermore, others, when establishing that mere appearance is the ultimate truth, also deny that it exists even within the scope of appearance. This will not be contradicted by direct perception, because when establishing the ultimate truth, conventional direct
