It is knowing that the essence of earth is without distinction. Wisdom is knowing that sentient beings have no object, as it is said, its object is indeed the ultimate truth. Furthermore, the great protector of the vast ten directions said, "It is taught for the sake of knowing the ultimate truth," because the definitive word of wisdom is spoken. If asked, is it not? There is no fault. Here, the suchness of the conventional is the object of the Perfection of Wisdom, and its suchness is also included in the ultimate. As it is said, "Subhuti, the conventional of the world is also other, and the ultimate is also other, it is not a different entity, what is the suchness of the conventional, that is the suchness of the ultimate." Furthermore, wisdom knows the conventional as the conventional, and that is also knowing the ultimate. Here, what is to be known is the refutation of external objects, the establishment of appearance as only mind, the determination of the nature of mind as emptiness in the ultimate, and that is the essence or lineage of the Thus-Gone One, as it is shown, and the stages of the path that purifies that lineage, and the way to attain complete purity through purification. The meaning of the sutra's subject matter is explained separately, and it should be understood as shown above. Briefly, the refutation of external objects should be understood in five ways: the subject that is the basis for the application of reasoning, the object to be refuted by the sign, the established object that is refuted in that way, the reasoning, and the way of showing examples. The first of these has two aspects: establishing what is conceived by others as the subject, and establishing mere appearance as the subject. The first of these is not reasonable when applying reasoning in one's own tradition, because if what is conceived is not understood in that way, then the opposite of what is established as the subject is not proven by valid cognition, and therefore the property of the subject that relies on it will not be established. If it is known that something is conceived as permanent, then it is mentally fabricating a false meaning, and at that time, because the object to be refuted is refuted and the object to be established is established, the function of the sign becomes meaningless. Here, when refuting the views of others with consequentialist reasoning, it is reasonable to establish such a thing as the subject, because other schools accept that external objects are aggregates of many partless atoms.

Now, the previous teachers said: If six are joined together simultaneously, then the ultimate atom will be divided into six parts. If those six are in one direction, then they will gather into the size of a tiny atom. Thus, having established that ultimate atom, which was examined and acknowledged by the outsiders, as the subject, with the reason acknowledged by themselves, one refutes the very oneness and accumulation. How so? When the atom located in the center is joined and observed by the atoms located in the four directions, above and below, if it is acknowledged that the atom in the east joins or observes in that direction, that is, the other atoms join and observe, then all will dissolve into the position of the eastern atom, becoming the measure of an ultimate atom, and therefore accumulation is unreasonable. However, if they join and observe each in their own direction, then the central atom will be divided into six parts. Thus it is, and it can be understood by thinking. Therefore, when one understands the refutation of oneself or others by the reason of one's own lineage, here the subject is the debater of the form of the external cessation of form, etc., and when it appears to be in accordance with the rebuttal, etc., then it is the subject. It is merely an appearance, and it is established by valid cognition such as direct perception, and it is liberated from the fault of the subject not being established. What is to be refuted is the assertion of the Mind-Only school that external objects truly exist. Here, some people think that it is not possible to refute things that truly exist, but this thought is unreasonable. This is to be refuted by the power of reason, and if the object to be refuted is established, then it is not a refutation, because it would become the maker of valid cognition as an entity, and become the dharma of an entity. If the object to be refuted is not established, then there is no point in refuting it, which is not reasonable. Because for the object to be refuted that does not exist, and that one's own or others' non-existence was not previously understood, making it understood, this alone is called refutation. The agent or the action does not exist. Here, the subject of how others appear is what should be refuted, otherwise, the appearance of the subject will not revert, so the sign will not be overcome, and therefore it will become a fault such as not being liberated from the bondage of the sign. Thus it is thought. This is not
