The phrase "etc., is to be understood" should be applied as an answer. "The formless aggregates are four; they are uncountable." This means that the appearances of color and shape cannot be enumerated one by one. The form aggregate is composed of the characteristics of various elements such as earth, and it transforms into many forms. However, since there are no independent external characteristics apart from the mind, it is neither composed of elements nor transformed from elements. "If the characteristic is different from form, why do the aggregates not arise?" This means that if the form aggregate is an external substance that appears unobstructed like a rainbow, why do the other four aggregates not manifest such a form? Therefore, it has been explained before that even the formless aggregates have extremely subtle forms. "Because the objects and faculties are different," etc., refers to the seeds that appear as internal and external sources, which exist in the Alaya consciousness. "In terms of characteristics, it is three" means that if the characteristics are summarized and distinguished, they will become three: mind, intellect, and consciousness. The disappearance of appearance and the occurrence of transformation refer to the fact that these will transform above the eighth ground. "The Alaya is the self of the mind, and consciousness is mine." This means that the Alaya consciousness is clung to as "I" by the afflicted mind, and that such Alaya consciousness also becomes the basis for clinging to "self." Thus, it continues constantly through clinging to "I" and "mine." Another explanation is that the afflicted mind clings to itself as "I" and clings to the Alaya consciousness as "mine." "Without entering" refers to not entering such clinging thoughts. "The appearance of the mind is consciousness, and the mind grasps other objects" refers to the fact that the grasping consciousness and the object it grasps are considered to be other things, and are distinguished like what is seen. The previous reason should be applied as an argument. "When the mind does not see" refers to the fact that if even the apparent conventional truth is not seen and is clung to as non-existent, it will become a view of slander; if the reality of the mind is clung to, it will become an extreme of exaggeration.

The phrase "distinctions are not real" and so on, shows the coemergent nature of the mind. The phrase "not entering into distinctions, the ultimate becomes without a dwelling place" means that distinctions have been transformed into the path and their habitual tendencies have been abandoned. The meaning of the phrases "reversing the aspects of the base, if things have causes" and so on is that it is asserted that the basis of habitual tendencies, the alaya-consciousness, does not exist either, and if it is thought that things such as distinctions have causes, then "the alaya does not exist" means that it does not exist in such things themselves, but only establishes other name differences. Just because other names are established, it does not establish that the alaya does not exist. The phrase "when causes and conditions gather, and the cause is prevented, they are inferred by meaning" means that because causes and conditions gather, and because the cause is prevented, distinctions and so on do not arise in the ultimate sense, which is inferred by meaning. Alternatively, arising from causes is in the relative sense. The meaning of the phrases "if the conditions are impermanent" and so on is that in the relative sense, because the conditions are impermanent, there is no arising or destruction in the ultimate sense. The pervasive meaning is that impermanence is temporary, so it contradicts having no cause. Moreover, arising from causes also pervades the four ways of arising as previously stated, but in the ultimate sense, that is not reasonable, so there is no arising. Precisely because of this, even when it appears as impermanent, it is empty of truly impermanent things. "Liberation from the faults of permanence" means liberation from the faults of permanence being empty of function, so it is unreasonable to produce results and so on. "Children" refers to appearing as impermanent in the cognition of children. "Whatever is being destroyed, becoming a cause is not seen" means that in the ultimate sense, impermanence and its becoming the cause of other things cannot be seen if searched for with reason. In such an unseen situation, how does impermanence arise, and by what cause does it arise? That is impossible. With the phrase "gathering all," and so on, it shows that the way of conduct of the bodhisattva is not inverted.
