, as well as without perception, or, at the time of cessation, having ceased and exhausted, immediately those kinds also do not arise, and because others also do not enter, therefore one's own mental discriminations do not experience happiness and suffering, that is, the mind of the eye and so on, as well as becoming the nature of mental discriminations of the mind, or not experiencing happiness and suffering arising from that, entering into such cessation becomes the mind of liberation, that is, as previously shown, it becomes the mind of nirvana. If one thinks, who will transform like that? It is the four dhyanas and so on. Regarding this, here some who are skilled in worldly dhyana think that even without perception it transforms into the mind of liberation. Also, here if it is in terms of the bodhisattva Mahayana practitioners, then it should be combined as before, that is, the functioning of the senses that have become the nature of consciousness, and the consciousness that enters having ceased, and so on. Regarding this, dhyana is like the first dhyana and the second dhyana and so on. Moreover, here it should be known from three aspects, that is, the cause from which they are obtained, the proximate cause of dhyana, and the cause that distinguishes them, the limbs, and the complete collection of the limbs. Regarding this, first the proximate cause, for each one also it should be known from six aspects, that is, the attention of fully knowing the characteristics, and arising from aspiration, and the attention of complete solitude, and the collection of joy, and the investigator, and the limit of combination. Regarding this, the meaning of the first is, if it is in terms of the first dhyana, then in the desire realm one attends to the aspects of coarse and so on, and meditating on the aspect of peace in the first dhyana, it is mixed with the hearing and thinking wisdom of the desire realm, with that wisdom knowing the characteristics of peace and coarse as they are, therefore it is called fully knowing the characteristics. Coarse and peaceful are also in order, the lower realm has a short life and much suffering and afflictions, the upper realm is the opposite of that. If one asks, is it not reasonable for bodhisattvas to practice like that here? There is no fault, because in conventional terms one attends to it like that, but in ultimate terms one does not cling to such things. Attention

This also becomes merely a branch of entering into the means of desiring the upper realm by being weary of the lower realm. In reality, it is said in the nine scriptures that such samadhi is attained by contemplating the reasons for calming, such as mindfulness of breathing in and out. That which arises from faith is solely one-pointed samadhi, unmixed with the wisdom of hearing and thinking. From such contemplation, one abandons the great afflictions to be abandoned by the meditation of the desire realm, and the contemplation that is isolated from them is extremely isolated. Thus, one who rejoices in abandoning by the touch of joy and happiness born of solitude, and who sees abandoning as beneficial, and who cultivates contemplation with faith, is called 'gathering joy,' which causes the abandonment of intermediate afflictions. After that, desiring to hate all afflictions, in order to examine whether they have been abandoned or not, one cultivates by contemplating objects that are conducive to the arising of afflictions, and the contemplation that examines is the examiner. There, having seen the signs of the arising of afflictions, in order to abandon them, one cultivates the aspects of peace and roughness as before, which is the limit of application. The fruit of the limit of application belongs to the category of the actual object to be attained by them. Here, if it is said that it is not appropriate to distinguish some continuous one-pointed samadhi into first and second, etc., then it should be distinguished by way of its branches. Among them, the first is with investigation and analysis, with joy and happiness, and one-pointedness, possessing five branches. Among them, investigation and analysis, it is said in the scriptures of Abhidharma that they belong to the category of mind and wisdom, and are seekers and have the aspect of certainty. In the Noble Collection of the True Dharma, it says: 'Investigation that is in accordance with the first dhyana, investigates according to the ritual, and they are also subdued, therefore it is called investigation,' and so on. Having said that, it also says that investigation itself is analysis, and differentiation, etc., is analysis. Joy and happiness are, in order, the happiness of mind and body. That also arises from the solitude of desire's attachment.
