Those who enter into samadhi in each and every moment of the mind are those above the seventh bhumi. As for the realm, one enters into samadhi in the desire realm and the form realm, but not in the formless realm. Because it is said that the transformation of the bodhisattva's qualities of paramita will come, one should not seek to be born in the formless realm. Therefore, the ground is based on everything, as it is said: 'The consciousness belonging to desire is limited by non-samadhi.' So forth. The meaning of this is stated in the sutra: 'Manifesting a non-samadhi mind, one enters into cessation from non-samadhi.' So forth. Attention is paid through the gate of wanting to practice and know such samadhi. As it is said in the Noble Cloud of Jewels Sutra: 'Above that, there is no sign of any mind, all activities cease, and it is free from all obscurations. This is cessation.' Thinking that this should be known, the bodhisattva enters into samadhi. So forth. What is to be negated is also the meaning spoken in this very sutra? Or, in the Noble Essence of the Sun and Essence of the Earth Sutras, it is said that one should stop all of the three feelings and three perceptions of ordinary beings, shravakas, and pratyekabuddhas. The own-being is the nature of the alaya consciousness, the unity of awareness and emptiness, which is free from those to be negated. The time is from one day to seven days, so the lamas explain. Furthermore, the Noble Essence of the Earth Sutra says: 'At that time, the bodhisattva also thinks like this: all dharmas and all forms are like illusions. Because they are not real, I will cut off all the three feelings and three perceptions, etc., without leaving any remainder.' Having thought like this, he enters into the samadhi of cessation. Having remained in that samadhi, just as he had previously sent his mind, he completely cuts off everything and lives on the food of the taste of samadhi. If he can stay for seven days, or two sevens, or three sevens, or four, or five, or six, or seven, or eight, if he can stay for countless kalpas, hundreds of thousands of kotis, he can stay as long as he is able, and eat the food of samadhi.

Having arisen from that samadhi, the mind is extremely pacified, not attached to anything, and dwells in bliss, so it is said. In other sutras as well, it is said that a great Bodhisattva, by entering samadhi once, can prevent even ten intermediate kalpas. If that is the case, in the five perfections that are taught, how does the Bhagavan, the great Bodhisattva, truly see the power of meaning, and not enter into the cessation samadhi? The Bhagavan said: Son of Sharadvati, because of the fear that this great Bodhisattva might fall into the ground of a Shravaka or a Pratyekabuddha, he does not enter into the bliss of the cessation of perception and feeling. If he were to enter into the cessation of perception and feeling, it should be known that he would manifest the fruit of an Arhat. Son of Sharadvati, having truly seen this meaning, the great Bodhisattva does not enter into the cessation of perception and feeling. And, in this very sutra, it is said that one enters into samadhi for only a short time. If this is the case, how can these statements not contradict each other? There is no fault. The meaning of teaching in that way is for Bodhisattvas with sharp faculties who have not previously attained the Bodhi of Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, in order to quickly perfect the accumulation of maturing sentient beings and so forth, desiring to become Buddhas. If they were to enter into the bliss of cessation for a long time, they would lose the activity of maturing sentient beings, and would temporarily become like the Bodhi of Shravakas and so forth. Therefore, it is taught with the consideration of not entering samadhi for a long time. What is said elsewhere is that Bodhisattvas who have previously attained the inferior Bodhi of Shravakas and so forth, and having arisen from that, have generated the mind of supreme Bodhi, even in the stage of the eighth Bodhisattva ground and so forth, enter into the bliss of cessation for a long time because they follow their previous habits. It is like stretching things like ant shells and so forth that have been watched for a long time, by the effort of a person.

Subsequently, when released again, it follows the previous pattern. Even so, they still benefit sentient beings to some extent through emanations during that time, and later, arising from that, complete the accumulations and, after a long time, eventually attain complete and perfect enlightenment. When the noble Pratyekabuddhas attain the ultimate stage of non-learning, they do not enter into cessation with the intention of quickly manifesting nirvana without remainder. However, those who have attained the mind of the peak of existence during the stage of learning enter into it with the perception of abiding. The seven grounds, etc., are to show the difference between Bodhisattvas and Shravakas, etc. Among them, the moment of mind is the moment of complete action, which is a word that represents a short period of time. "The characteristic of the nature of all things is clear" means that because they realize that their nature is emptiness, such characteristics and elaborations are prevented. Shravakas and Buddhas are those who manifestly engage in activity, falling into the characteristics of grasping and being grasped. Because they do not realize that the entering consciousness and its object are emptiness, they become weary of coarse perceptions and feelings, and prevent such a state through effort and diligence, like a fire covered with ashes, possessing the seeds of grasping and being grasped. Therefore, they consider all dharmas to be one in mind in conventional terms, and in ultimate terms, there is no distinction in emptiness, and they do not realize the nature of the absence of various dharmas. The meaning of "not permissible" is that if it becomes the nature of the absence of various characteristics, etc., then the fault of contradicting their established tenets will disappear. Therefore, they are not able to particularly enter into the seven grounds. From the sixth and seventh grounds, etc., if it is in terms of Shravakas, then it is the ground of white clear vision, the ground of lineage, the eighth and the path of seeing, the ground of thinness, the ground of detachment from desire, the ground of accomplished liberation, and thus it becomes seven types. Moreover, the Shravaka ground mentioned in some scriptures refers to being included in those seven, or being different from those seven, and thus there are eight types. Among them, the white clear
