It is not that it produces, but merely clarifies the meaning of what already exists. Just as linking things like yogurt and pots to milk and clay, it does not produce what was not there before, but rather clarifies the meaning of what already exists, that is its meaning. Furthermore, if one asserts that another entity is produced from the entity of the effect, then for a pot that already exists in the darkness, a lamp does not produce anything. However, when it produces some mental phenomena that make it clear, unwise people cling to the clarity as being no different from the pot, just as the pot also appears to be related to being produced by the lamp. Similarly, for the kinds of entities that are the effect, although the cause has not done anything, it has done another dharma that should be produced, and because of clinging to it as being no different from the entity of the effect, it also appears to be related to the cause, that is its meaning. "Unborn, without inherent existence" means that it does not exist even in mere conventional truth. The words "by the noble ones" and so on indicate the nature of the Dharma realized by the noble ones. Its meaning is that the nature of the Dharma realized and manifested by the noble ones is without arising, which is the negation of arising in conventional truth. Furthermore, one should individually realize through the non-conceptual wisdom that unites wisdom and emptiness. "No arising" means that such conceptualization does not arise, and one should individually realize through the wisdom of forbearance towards the Dharma of non-arising. Thus, if one sees that there is no arising in ultimate truth, and that in conventional truth it is merely dependent arising, then the mind abides in equanimity, that is, the wisdom of the eighth ground and above does not stray from the nature of Dharma to other things. The words "does not know" and so on show the distinctions of dependent arising in conventional truth. That is, a pot arises from a wheel and clay, a sprout arises from water and seeds, and smoke arises from wood and fire. These are external dependent arisings, which are established only in external appearances, but external entities are not established. The words "merely a connection" and so on are to refute the opponent's view from another perspective. Merely a connection means that these have not been examined.

That is not a delightful, illusory dependent arising, but rather the belief that things arising from causes are truly existent. This does not accord with reason and scripture, and will be harmed by them. The meaning of "if..." and so on is: if other things do not have such arising and causing things, then from what cause does the wisdom that understands in this way arise? This itself is unreasonable, so it should not be understood in this way, which is a rebuttal. The meaning of the answer is: there is no arising in the ultimate truth to be understood, but it appears to arise in the conventional truth, and the minds that measure in this way arise mutually. Although they are not different, the later continuums arise mutually. The meaning has been explained in detail before. Therefore, the arising of mind is reasonable, so it should also be known that those things are only causes in the conventional truth, and there is no arising in the ultimate truth. The phrases "warmth and moisture" and so on indicate that the external elements and so on are being examined, and that is all. The phrases "of the patient..." and so on explain the view that dependent arising is truly existent. Its meaning is: just as in order to treat different kinds of diseases, doctors will show different drug prescriptions, but there are different medical systems, and in reality the results to be pursued are not different. Similarly, after understanding the afflictions and the differences in the sharpness and dullness of the faculties of sentient beings, I tell those with dull faculties that dependent arising and so on are existent in the nature of things, and I especially explain the dependent arising of certain consciousnesses to some people, but the ultimate meaning to be realized is the meaning of the one Great Vehicle. The eight branches refer to the eight noble path branches such as right view and right thought. Peace refers to the cessation of perversion. The detailed meaning of these has been explained before. Then, "again..." and so on show the impermanence mentioned earlier from mutually different perspectives. Right or wrong refers to the non-perverted reality of the Tathagata himself, and what others have observed. Form itself is impermanent, such as the form of flames and lightning is impermanent, while others are permanent.
