That which has passed before. The other meanings of the words are easy to understand. By words such as "that," the previous meaning, together with the remainder, is summarized and shown, and the showing of the suchness of not being born for a while at first, etc., is: Like the eight examples of illusion, it is not born in the ultimate sense, and in the conventional sense, the appearance of being born does not cease. The meaning of the union of wisdom and emptiness is the same as that previously shown in detail. By "things without cause exist," etc., it refers to the existence of things without cause, such as Ishvara, which is accepted by outsiders, and other than that, the way of speaking of the Tathagata, just as the great wisdom spoke to me. By "assemblages," etc., it clearly shows its meaning. Apart from the assemblage of atoms or subtle consciousness, objects such as vases cannot be known or observed by unerring wisdom. Therefore, it is "unborn," etc. If it is said that even if objects other than assemblages are not observed, each of the assembled objects exists in a connected or related way, and that is what vases and other objects are, then such a thing is also without the appearance of reason and cannot be observed, so it does not exist. As it is said: When the atoms of form are examined, there is no part of the atom. Like that. Here, the gross assemblage with parts, which is merely the destruction and transformation into atomic objects as accepted by the Vaisheshika heretics, is not the meaning of non-existence or emptiness. Other than that, it is the same as the eight examples of illusion. It is the meaning of selflessness, etc. By "saying without cause," etc., it shows that it is precisely because the meaning is such that it is not the same as the outsiders, and that it exists in their realm. One should argue with them by saying that Ishvara, etc., is without cause. When the unborn is established as illusion in order to abandon it, the tenets of my school will not be harmed or destroyed by such arguments. Thus, when the ultimate truth is shown to be without cause, or when the outsiders examine the statement that there is no action or agent, beings who are attached to things...

If that is the case, then how will things like sprouts arise? In what place or time will they become causeless? Because for the causeless, location, time, and nature cannot be determined. Furthermore, if there is no cause, then from what cause do sprouts and the like arise? And by what conditions are they produced? It is unreasonable that such arising is not observed, because it is causeless, like a lotus in the sky. Such an assertion is also unreasonable, because it would contradict direct perception and the like, so non-Buddhists would become frightened and afraid. Here, there is no connection with such faults, because we do not deny conventional truth of cause and effect, and in ultimate truth, we do not accept that location and time are definite. Like "things do not exist," etc., we do not accept that there is no birth, etc., as others have speculated. The meaning of that is that so-called no-birth is not like a rabbit's horn, etc., which does not even exist in conventional truth, nor is it the name given to the very thing that arises from conditions, nor is it a synonym for the name of another thing, nor is it just a meaningless name. Like "the Hearers and," etc., it shows the synonyms of no-birth, the meaning of no-birth is the union of wisdom and emptiness, the meaning of the Middle Way that is free from the two extremes, is not the object of practice for bodhisattvas below the seventh ground, because they are with signs and have inferior faculties. "The agents" refers to the agents speculated by non-Buddhists. The meaning of "the mind is liberated from appearances," etc., is liberation from the appearance of the two, grasper and grasped, abandoning all the two extremes such as permanence and annihilation, the wisdom of the eighth ground and above, which is the most vast after the transformation of the eight consciousnesses, is to be known individually by oneself, which is the meaning of no-birth. The meaning of "external objects," etc., is that the nature of mind, which appears as external, does not exist in any way, and in ultimate truth, mind itself does not exist as the nature of grasper or grasped, etc. Similarly, like "emptiness," etc., it is connected with other synonyms, emptiness, etc.
