Or wanting to realize transcendence of samsara, or wanting to have the bliss of samadhi, etc., these are not abandoned. The once-returner also changes into three types: having abandoned the fifth level of afflictions of the desire realm and below, one enters the fruit of non-returning; having abandoned the sixth level, it is not a special fruit; having abandoned between the seventh and eighth levels, it is a special fruit with one interruption. Its meaning is also that there is no interval between the noble non-returner and one affliction. The explanation of the meaning of "one" is: for example, the meaning of observing the general and specific characteristics, form etc. are the basis of characteristics, and saying that these do not have self-nature is because the basis of characteristics and self-nature do not exist. The meaning to be proven by this is that even though these do not exist, form etc. still appear as self-nature, and clinging to this is merely conceptual thought. Such conceptual thought arises once, and precisely because of this, not having abandoned desire for desire, even after changing lives, one will come to this world of the desire realm once, that is, taking one birth each among humans and gods, thereby directly seeing the self-nature of the object of meditation. If one follows the dull faculties, one only sees the absence of self of the person in the object of meditation of the child's play previously shown, and completely enters into peace in order to completely eliminate one's own suffering. If one follows the sharp faculties, one realizes in this way that the basis of characteristics and self-nature do not exist, therefore conceptual thought that appears as self-nature etc. arises once, and not having abandoned desire for desire, one comes to this world once as before, thereby thoroughly seeing the self-nature of the object of meditation, that is, the suchness of the absence of self of phenomena, thereby completely eliminating one's own suffering. Furthermore, the noble non-returner is one who has abandoned the ninth level of afflictions of the desire realm, therefore even if one is reborn from then on, one will not take birth in the desire realm. Moreover, in the Sutra of the Noble One's Passing into Nirvana, it is said that there are seven types when distinguished in detail. In this way, after obtaining the fruit of non-returning on the basis of the desire realm, one makes diligent effort, thereby abandoning the afflictions of the three realms and entering nirvana, and it is said in the treatises that in the present dharma, peace

Thus it is taught. Furthermore, having obtained the fruit of non-return on the basis of form, they pass into nirvana as before, as well as passing into nirvana in the intermediate state, passing into nirvana after being born, passing into nirvana with effort, passing into nirvana without effort, and passing into nirvana by exceeding. Among these, there are also two types of passing into complete nirvana with effort: taking two births in the realm of form and passing into nirvana, and taking four births. The former is the one with sharp faculties, and the latter is called the one with dull faculties. Other ways of distinguishing them are also taught. Those with effort and without effort are also called with manifestation of activity and without manifestation of activity. Among these, passing into nirvana in the intermediate state means that of the two actions, the action of doing and the action of taking birth, the action of taking birth is abandoned, and relying solely on the action of doing, abandoning the aggregates of the desire realm, and between being born in the form realm, the antidote is manifested and nirvana is attained, which is also the one with sharp faculties. It is also said that: "Son of good family, beings in the desire realm and the form realm have two kinds of actions, namely the action of doing and the action of taking birth. Passing into nirvana in the intermediate state only has the action of doing, and there is no action of taking birth. Therefore, it is called passing into complete nirvana in the intermediate state, abandoning the aggregates of the desire realm, and because of the sharpness of the faculties, they pass into nirvana without going to the form realm, which is called passing into nirvana in the intermediate state," and so on. These actions themselves are also called the pervasive action of manifestation and the pervasive action of taking birth in the treatises. Taking the aggregates and passing into nirvana means that since both of these actions have not been abandoned, they abandon the aggregates of the desire realm and take the aggregates of the form realm, and there they diligently strive on the path and pass into nirvana. Passing into complete nirvana with effort, as previously taught, constantly strive on the path between those two or four births in the form realm, and by the power of conditioned samadhi, they completely cut off the defilements and pass into nirvana.
