Without special distinction, saying "vase" does not cause confusion about the meaning being expressed. Because such a word's meaning cannot possibly not exist in any place or time, the questioner raises this issue to refute this view. The statement "not known in all Buddha-fields" refers to some actions of body and speech that are known as symbols for certain things in some Buddha-fields, but are not known as symbols in the same way in all fields. Because symbols depend on the wishes of individuals, they can only understand their meanings as they have been designated. Among them, "gesture" refers to the gesture of body and speech or just a hint. Remembering the Buddha-field is the coarse movement of the mind, and for those who know the minds of others, it symbolizes and shows other profound meanings. By looking without blinking, obtaining forbearance of the unarisen dharma, etc., that itself becomes a symbol of obtaining them. The symbol indicating meaning is uncertain, which is also evident in this world. For example, insects and bees, etc., even without language widely used like humans, can gather each other through body movements, etc., thereby completing the act of expressing their respective meanings. Then, again, through the words "Bodhisattva" etc., the Tathagatagarbha is elaborated in detail with other names. The meaning of the question is, in this sutra and the Nirvana Sutra and other scriptures, the Tathagatagarbha is said to have the nature of permanence, self, etc., and exists in all sentient beings, so what is the meaning of the words "permanence" etc.? The meaning of the answer is that the object of attachment of the deluded mind of ordinary people is the nature of the deluded mind that appears that way. And its suchness also appears to the noble ones, even if it appears to them, it is only the nature of the mind in the conventional sense, and the mind is empty in the ultimate sense. Appearing and experiencing like that does not stop, this is the suchness of the union of awareness and emptiness. It does not change, so it is also called permanence. And for ordinary people and others, it appears differently from this, so their minds are wrong, they are deluded.

Thus, the suchness of perversion is constant. If this is not realized, it becomes the cause of samsara. If one realizes it partially, or realizes it completely as it is, it will accordingly become the cause of the three bodhisattvas, and therefore can also be called the cause of nirvana. The reason for saying that it becomes the cause of the three bodhi is with regard to the temporary. Thus it is said, and so on, which is explained in detail. As in "This is like this," and so on, the meaning itself is explained in detail. Among them, the meaning of the metaphor is: unskilled people cling to mirages and so on as real things like water, so it can also be called inverted confusion. Moreover, the nature of such appearance is empty of real things like water. Such appearance is not interrupted, and it is understood as the union of illusion. Such understanding is the suchness of appearance, like the unchanging nature of other things. The eye-born person refers to the situation where the difference of eye defects appears as a person. As in "Great wisdom," and so on, the meaning symbolized by the metaphor is that the confusion and constancy of the minds of children and others have been established. Among them, confusion refers to the fact that it is inconsistent with the saints, and many contradictory images appear on the same thing. Its suchness is constant, because things with and without have been completely abandoned. That is to say, the mind of inverted confusion itself is not established as a thing of ultimate truth, but such appearance is not interrupted, so as shown before, it is the dharma nature like the illusion of union.

Also, because the objects of each individual's consciousness appear and function, non-things are completely abandoned. Nowadays, it is just like all children do for various objects of enjoyment. That is to say, regarding how consciousness and the objects of consciousness appear and are experienced, some consider it to be the nature of aggregated external particles, some consider it to be a single coarse object with parts, some consider it to be the ultimate truth of a conscious entity, and others realize it as merely an appearance of non-things, because contradictory things cannot coexist. Error is not a thing, but the object of each individual's consciousness appears and is experienced in that way, and since it is established conventionally, it is also not a non-thing. Just as water appears in that way, it is because, just as hungry ghosts see and do not see, the meaning has been explained before. Thus, error, etc., summarizes the meaning of the present context. Completely abandoning perversion is abandoning the grasping of various things like children. Completely abandoning non-perversion is because the mere appearance and experience have not ceased. Therefore, in the face of that wisdom, both things and non-things are completely abandoned. Having thus established the reason, applying it to the present proposition, it is like that, etc. The suchness of error is the characteristic of the union of abandoning the two extremes of things and non-things, so the characteristics of the signs are not different. The nature of error, place, time, etc., are not different, so it is permanent. Great wisdom, etc., explains that meaning in detail. How is great wisdom, etc., establishing error as suchness itself, just as before, error is like the object of the noble ones, its nature is suchness, therefore its nature is the unchanging suchness. Just as it is said in the Prajnaparamita of the Noble Ones, form is profound because it is suchness, or how is the suchness of form, form is profound, etc. For that, even the inverted mind does not arise, just like ordinary people.
