Or it means wisdom, being able to perceive oneself and also enable others to perceive. Therefore, one perceives all immeasurable afflictions, and by perceiving in this way, one is not controlled by all afflictions, just as if someone notices a thief entering their house, they will not be controlled by the thief. Therefore, it is called Buddha. For the same reason, it is also called Buddha because of abandoning the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. These explanations regarding the occasion are spoken by the Blessed One himself in the Sutra of the Great Nirvana. If not being controlled by afflictions, etc., is also present in Arhats and Pratyekabuddhas, then should they also become Buddhas? No, it is not so. Because other parts of the scriptures say that they have not abandoned the afflictions of the place of ignorance, and also in this very text, it will be shown below that "connected with the habitual tendencies of afflictions." Furthermore, if an Arhat enters Parinirvana without remainder, will they become a Buddha because there is no suffering of birth, etc.? There is no fault. However, that is only temporarily abiding from the realm of the uncontaminated and approaching peace, but it is not always abiding in that way, because it will be shown below that "there is or is not an ultimate end to this," etc. Also, the meaning of Tathagata is that one has realized the suchness of Dharma as it is, and also teaches it to others in the same way, therefore it is Tathagata. As it is said in the sutra: "Truly realizing the suchness of Dharma, teaching the path of suchness, this is called Tathagata." And: "The glorious Tathagata has passed away, the Tathagata comes again, with this wisdom reasoning, it is called Tathagata." This is said in the supreme secret tantras. Also, the meaning of Buddha is: "Whoever completely knows all dharmas, transforms the unreal into a sign, understands that all dharmas are pure, therefore it is called Buddha." This is said in the sutra. The meaning of pure is to understand the nature of Dharma as being free from all sudden stains. Therefore, one who possesses the perfection of abandonment and realization is called Buddha.

Also, in the Tantra of Manifest Enlightenment of Vairochana, it is said: 'The ten grounds are completely transcended, the aspects of power are fully understood, whoever thoroughly realizes here that all dharmas are empty and without characteristics, that one is called a Buddha.' The word 'also' here means to summarize. Because the seed is abandoned, and one is far from sin, therefore one is a noble being. There are no dharmas that transform into something other than mind, and even knowledge itself is not experienced as being mutually distinct, because it does not possess the characteristics of what is grasped and the grasper. Therefore, the nature of each individual thing is free from elaboration and is luminous, and by realizing it in the way of individual self-awareness, it is the wisdom of individual self-awareness. As it is said: 'Because of knowing that, it is wisdom,' and so on. The details will be explained below. Such wisdom does not rely on the views of conceptual thought, and the heretics do not rely on the scriptures that truly see the nature of reality, but rely on one-sided reasons, and with self-satisfied desires, they regard the self of persons, etc., as real; and relying on the words of others, they think that they have attained liberation, and even in the state of fruition, they boast that they have attained liberation; for those who are to be tamed who cling to the aggregates, etc., as the nature of dharmas, they teach the dharma with words, and are also called Shravakas or Hearers. A Pratyekabuddha is one who attains enlightenment and becomes a Buddha by himself without relying on the words of others, realizing the absence of self of persons and the absence of self-nature of what is grasped, and teaching the Dharma without speaking to others. A noble being refers to a Bodhisattva below the seventh ground, who has not yet transformed into a place of afflicted mind, so they still have a slight clinging to self, etc., and do not truly realize the individual and general characteristics of all dharmas, which will be explained below, so it is not their field of activity. What they meditate on is connected with what the Buddhas meditate on, and here is shown the peak of the Dharma mountain that they each meditate on in the way of individual self-awareness, and I also proclaim the Dharma of individual self-awareness in order to be realized in that place by the lord of the Yakshas being called, etc.
