There are six superknowledges. If divided by location, etc., they become many things, hence the term "many." The detailed meaning of these will be explained below. The term "various plays" means to play and enjoy in various ways. The term "great wisdom," etc., refers to the name of the chief of the retinue. Abandoning the two extremes, that itself is profound, possessing the wisdom to understand the vast and extensive realm of skillful means, hence the term "great wisdom." Those Buddhas residing in different fields also place their hands, like an elephant's trunk, on the head and bless them to have special dharanis and fearlessness. This is empowerment, which will be clearly explained below. The meaning of "my mind appears," etc., is that the various appearances are not things external to the mind. In conventional truth, it is the mind itself, and the nature of the mind is also free from elaboration and luminous. Such a nature is realized and manifested. This also shows the perfection of one's own benefit, and "of sentient beings," etc., shows the perfection of the benefit of others. Knowing others' minds with attachment, one says they have attachment, etc. Because these are said, one knows the manifest movements of the mind and the subtle latent tendencies, and in what form they will be tamed, and that they will be tamed by various different teachings, possessing the various different forms of taming. One knows how to show these various things. This explanation also clarifies the meaning of "great wisdom" mentioned earlier. Furthermore, the five dharmas, etc., will be explained below. "To realize and comprehend" means to manifest in the manner of individual self-awareness. Such a great gathering of Bodhisattvas and the Bhagavan abide together. Thus, the meaning of the words has been shown, and the debates and answers have mostly been explained when explaining the meaning of each, and furthermore, here the statement "I have heard" is inappropriate, because the Bhagavan spoke in the heavenly realms such as the Thirty-Three and in other world realms.

There are also Sutras concerning 'that,' but that is not the realm of Ananda, who has not attained the qualities of miraculous powers, etc. If one asks, 'Is it because everything is under their control that they are compiled with 'Thus I have heard,' etc.?' There is no fault. Just as the sound of Dharma arises from trees and musical instruments, etc., through the blessing of the Tathagata, it is also taught by him. Whoever hears these also hears from the Tathagata. Therefore, the Sutras spoken by the Tathagata in other places are heard and understood by other Bodhisattvas. Such understanding is also specially blessed. The Sutras taught by him that Ananda heard were also heard from the Tathagata himself. In another way, Ananda is the foremost in upholding the Dharma, so in order to ascertain the meanings previously heard from others, he asked the Tathagata and dispelled doubts, so there is nothing inappropriate in the meaning of 'I have heard.' Furthermore, in order to eliminate doubts such as 'When and from where was it heard here?' showing the time and place, etc., is to follow the differences of those to be tamed, and to explain it by taking the compiler's teacher as different from the Tathagata. This is the beginning of the guiding meaning. If we follow the definite meaning as shown earlier, then we should know that there is no contradiction with the Tathagata himself compiling it. If that is the case, then the special feature of that place is whether the Tathagata was dwelling there with his retinue from the very beginning, or whether he came from another place. To eliminate such doubts, it is also 'at that time,' etc., which should be understood as the connection of words. Its meaning is that he was not dwelling there from the beginning, but the Bhagavan, in order to subdue the kings of the Naga race in the ocean, stayed in the land of the Nagas for seven days. Then, in order to subdue the Rakshasa king calling his companions, etc., he came from that previous place and dwelt in this special place. These are to arrange the body of the Sutra after showing the beginning earlier, that is, through the door of eight chapters.

And declare, the meaning of these is summarized in four ways: to extensively explain the meaning to be known, and to summarize these meanings, to explain that the Dharma nature of the mind is the Tathagatagarbha or the nature of the lineage; to explain the distinction of the path of Abhisamaya that purifies this defilement; and to explain the temporary and ultimate results of obtaining complete purity through purification. The first of these is the chapter of inviting companions and praying, which also shows the nature of what should be known. The first of these is the Tathagata showing the sign of teaching the Dharma, up to "smiling". Among them, "at that time" means that in order to subdue the Dragon King and others, the profound meaning is approximated, and in order to subdue the Rakshasa King, it is declared, which is a summary. "At that time" means that the time has come to subdue the inviting companions, etc., which is "at that time". The meaning of the remaining words is obvious. The meaning of "Past Tathagatas" etc. is the Buddhas of the past, among which "Tathagata" refers to the Buddhas who have no beginning. In the past, in order to save sentient beings, the Buddhas understood and declared the meaning of the twelve scriptures, and later people also understood and declared them in the same way, so they are called Tathagatas. Also, the Buddhas of the past entered the Great Parinirvana from the Six Perfections, the Thirty-seven Factors of Enlightenment, and the Eleven Emptiness Paths, and later people also entered in the same way; also, the Buddhas of the past were good at subduing sentient beings, and used this to declare the Three Vehicles, etc., and their lifespans were immeasurable, and later people also acted in the same way, so they are Tathagatas. This is unreasonable, because the Tathagata Shakyamuni Buddha's lifespan is very short. No, because as declared, he has conquered the Lord of Death, so he has mastered his lifespan. Showing shortness is only for the sake of special disciples. Arhat here refers to the worldly Dharma.
