The demonstration of passing into Nirvana is said to be with a hidden meaning. Therefore, the definite teaching of the three vehicles is said to be for the purpose of gradually realizing the Great Vehicle itself, even by those who are devoted to the inferior, but it is not said for the purpose of completely focusing on and ultimately achieving the inferior fruit itself. If they have the lineage of the Great Vehicle, but are made to abide in the inferior fruit, then the Tathagata would be stingy with the Dharma and would not look upon sentient beings with equal compassion, and so on, which would be a fault. As it is also said, in the Noble White Lotus of the Good Dharma: "Having touched the stainless and excellent Bodhi, if I were to place some sentient beings in the inferior vehicle, I would have the fault of stinginess, which is not good." Also, in the Noble Chapter on Truth: "Manjushri, the Buddha-field will definitely arise from one vehicle, therefore it will be endowed with the essence of one vehicle. I do not have the establishment of the Hearer's Vehicle and the Solitary Buddha's Vehicle. Why is that? Because the Tathagata is free from different perceptions. Manjushri, if the Tathagata were to teach the Great Vehicle to some, the Solitary Buddha's Vehicle to some, and the Hearer's Vehicle to some, then the Tathagata would also become impure, and would also become the fault of attachment, and great compassion would also become limited, and there would also be different perceptions, and the teacher would treat the Dharma like an enemy. Manjushri, furthermore, whatever Dharma I teach to sentient beings, all of that is inclined towards Bodhi, flows towards the Great Vehicle, leads to the state of omniscience, and achieves one taste, that is, it achieves the state of omniscience." And so on. Also, in the Play of the Conduct of a Bodhisattva: "The guide has equal mind towards all sentient beings, I do not have any thoughts of differentiation. If I teach the inferior vehicle to others, then I will have the fault of stinginess." Thus, the definitive meaning to be taught by this Sutra is this: how to, in the relative

Moreover, saying that the Great Vehicle is the only one, regardless of the distinction between conventional and ultimate truths, or between temporary and ultimate, is also provisional, because in ultimate truth there is no vehicle, and based on that, there are no travelers, etc., and in conventional truth, because the temporary paths and results are different. Also, the determination as three vehicles is also intentional as previously stated, and furthermore, if considered from a temporary perspective, it would become many, such as the vehicles of gods and Brahma. It is also not definite as many, because as previously stated, it is condensed into three types of liberation results, and the path to obtain it is also condensed into three, etc., it is sufficient to know these. Therefore, the meaning that is the opposite of these is called definitive meaning. The meaning of the verses is that the Hearer Stream-enterer has abandoned the afflictions to be abandoned by seeing the path, along with the seeds, from there, as previously stated, the exhaustion and non-arising of the Arhat, the wisdom of knowing, etc., are confused, and other minds that hold such thoughts about them are also confused. The reason for this is that they have not abandoned the root of reversal, the appearance of attachment to reality. As it is said: "The mind with an object, once ceased, will arise again." Or, "The nirvana of those with minds attached to objects is difficult to abide in." Like that. Furthermore, in the Holy Lotus Sutra of the Good Law, it says: "Any monk or nun who claims to be an Arhat and does not fully embrace the aspiration for unsurpassed perfect enlightenment, saying that they have no hope for the Buddha's vehicle, and saying that the end of their body's nirvana is only this much, Shariputra, know that this is a person with excessive pride." Also, in the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it also says: "If he attains Arhatship and then seeks perfect enlightenment, how can he obtain what has not been born? Blessed One, you know clearly, why do you not prophesy the birth of this life?" In response, the Blessed One said: "Maitreya, I am under the control of karma and afflictions."
