The primary thing is lineage, and the primary change is the object. However, both must be acknowledged, as stated by the noble Vimuktisena. Therefore, although some material dharmas exist conventionally apart from the mind, uniting them with that nature is not the Buddha's lineage, because their characteristics are extremely contradictory, just as a horse is not a cow's lineage. This exists in all sentient beings. As it is said in the noble Nirvana Sutra: 'Therefore, I always say that all sentient beings have the Buddha-nature, so even those with wrong views have the Buddha-nature.' Furthermore, even though those with wrong views and so on do not have virtuous qualities, the Buddha-nature itself is virtuous, because it will exist in the future. Moreover, those with wrong views and so on have the Buddha-nature. Why? Because those with wrong views will surely realize the unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Son of lineage, for example, if someone has milk and yogurt in their house, and another person asks, 'Do you have butter?' He replies, 'I have butter.' Although yogurt is not actually butter, it will surely be obtained through skillful means, so he says he has butter. Sentient beings are also like that; all have mind. Whoever has mind will surely attain unsurpassed, perfect, complete enlightenment. Therefore, I always say that all sentient beings have the Buddha-nature.' Thus it is taught. Furthermore, son of lineage, the Tathagatagarbha is merely present in all sentient beings but cannot be seen, just as a poor woman has a treasure. Son of lineage, I should truly declare that all sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, just as a poor woman does not know even when told she has a great treasure. All sentient beings have the Tathagatagarbha, but it is obscured by the forms of afflictions, so sentient beings do not know.

Not seeing the trees, the Thus-gone One revealed them; they rejoiced and said, "We take refuge in the Thus-gone One," and so on. In the Noble Samadhiraja Sutra, it is also said: All these beings will become Buddhas; here there is no sentient being who is not a vessel. And so on. In the Teaching on the Essence of the Thus-gone One, it is also said: Just as the body of the Sugata is completely wrapped in garments despised by dirt. And so on, for example, just as the body of the Victorious One wrapped in rotten clothes cannot be seen, all sentient beings have the nature of the Buddha, but because it is wrapped in the defilements of affliction, it cannot be seen. If that is removed, it will become visible and the name of the Buddha will be obtained, and this meaning is extensively explained. There are many such things in the treatises of the sages, but I will not elaborate because I am afraid of too many words. Therefore, all sentient beings gradually go through the process and become Buddhas, so the ultimate result is also one, and the path to obtain it, and the lineage to be purified by the path, if viewed from the ultimate point of view, is also one, that is, the Buddha's lineage. However, if viewed from a temporary point of view, there are many places where suffering can be relieved, such as the Bodhi of the Hearers, and the path to obtain it, and the state of the lineage to be purified by the path, are different. If so, then the Noble Nirvana Sutra

Furthermore, this contradicts the teaching that the paths for purifying them and the nature of the fruit are shown as three vehicles. Moreover, in the Sutra of the Heap of Varura, it is said: 'Monks, if one were to take one grain every hundred years from a heap of Varura that is one yojana in breadth and depth, it would be exhausted, but the realm of sentient beings is inexhaustible.' How could this not be contradictory? Therefore, the nature of lineage is that of the inexhaustible dharma existing in the ālaya-vijñāna, which becomes the actual dharma, transmitted from one to another from beginningless time, or something that is affected by sudden hearing and thinking, etc. Moreover, in particular, the seed of the undefiled dharma of the Śrāvakas is definitely the lineage of the Śrāvakas, and from it only the bodhi of the Śrāvakas arises, and not others.' Similarly, other distinctions of lineage should also be understood. Thus, since the lineages are determined separately, and the vehicles of their own nature, which are the methods for purifying them, are also determined as three different ones, and the ultimate fruit purified by them is also determined as three different bodhis, they assert that it is impossible to transcend from the inferior bodhi and ultimately become a Buddha. Therefore, showing lineage and vehicle as one is intentional, just as this sutra itself will show below, and the great lord of the ten bhūmis also said: 'Since dharma and beings are liberated alike, lineages are different, because of obtaining two thoughts, because of emanation, because of being ultimate, it is one vehicle.' And so on, showing one vehicle because the dharmadhātu of the dharmas of the Śrāvakas, etc., is the same, that is, because it is to be traversed, it is the Great Vehicle. Furthermore, it is also shown that the beings of the Śrāvakas, etc., are the same in terms of the absence of a self of beings, so it is one vehicle, that is, because it is the goer, it is called a vehicle.' And so on, this contradicts showing that lineage and vehicle as one is intentional. This is unreasonable, because the assertion that the seed is a truly existent entity in ultimate truth has been refuted from many aspects such as aggregates, own-nature, otherness, etc. Moreover, showing it as such an entity is all...
