To impute and merely cling to the absence of characteristics. This is how it is: The statement "It is just like that, not otherwise" is an imputation of an external object onto the nature of blue, and so on. The nature of dreams and dizziness, and so on, also has such an appearance. In that case, the discrimination that it exists when not asleep, but does not exist during a dream, is born from the power of the complete maturation of past habits, and all of those are the same. Thus, the All-Knowing One confirms that this discrimination, which imputes the characteristic of lacking great wisdom, arises from clinging to the various habits of negative states of elaboration from beginningless time. That is, the mind that arises in a continuous stream of moments from beginningless time is disturbed by the differences in the conditions of the power of one's own and others' continuums. Due to the power of the complete maturation of various habits of ignorance, which does not equally abide in negative states, it is apprehended like a dream, and the cycle of what appears to be grasped appears. When one analyzes with wisdom, distinguishing between coarse and subtle, and does not focus on that great appearance and the samadhi without appearance, then the All-Knowing One engages in benefiting all sentient beings, which has been explained many times. To impute great wisdom is to impute the bad view of seeing the aggregates, elements, and sense bases themselves as self, sentient being, life, nourishment, person, and individual. This great wisdom is called the imputation of the view of non-existence. That is, clinging to the appearance of the aggregates, elements, and sense bases as separate external objects is the imputation of non-existence. Moreover, clinging to permanence, self, and what belongs to self is the imputation of bad views. The objects of permanence, self, happiness, and purity are transmitted one after another through inverted and wrong knowledge. To impute the cause of lacking great wisdom is like this: The consciousness that did not arise from a cause before, later like an illusion, did not exist before and from nothing, the eye and

Regarding the statement, "Form, the cause of appearance, and memory arise as precursors," to assert that a previously unborn consciousness is a non-existent cause is a perverse conceptualization. If there were no such thing as the Alaya-consciousness, which continuously exists in beginningless time, how could memory and individual awareness, etc., be fully known? Because newly born beings manifest joy, fear, and sorrow in certain realms. Eye-consciousness and the like rely on memory, form, and the cause of appearance. Therefore, being empty in the beginning and the end, like an illusion, the arising of consciousness is born from one cause and one condition immediately following it, just as the continuity of the mindstream is uninterrupted, as has been previously established. Great Wisdom, to cling to non-existent things is like this: to cling to and assert that space, cessation, and Nirvana are uncreated things. The so-called uncreated is to say that space is permanent. Likewise, to cling to Nirvana as permanent. To cling to its non-existent nature as existent is to cling to non-existent things. There are three kinds of uncompounded things: space and non-analytical cessation. Whatever is uncompounded, because it is unborn, is without substance, like a rabbit's horn and the son of a barren woman, etc. This is the intention of the All-Knowing One. Therefore, to cling to the permanent and that which is made of particles, such as substances with limbs, and any other permanent thing, is to cling to non-existent things, as has been said before. Great Wisdom, all these dharmas are completely different from existent and non-existent things, like a rabbit, a horse, a donkey, the horn of a mare, and tangled hair, being separate from the sides of existence and non-existence. Great Wisdom, those childish beings whose minds have not realized that it is merely the appearance of their own minds, conceptualize through clinging and defamation, but the noble ones do not. This is what the All-Knowing One said from the Ratnakuta Sutra.

Thus, extracting the essence of ultimate reality, which is the nature of phenomena, the Middle Way meditation is taught. When one is liberated from the conceptualizations of existence and non-existence, children make assumptions, and slanderers make distinctions. The so-called failure to realize that one's own mind is merely an appearance is that in beginningless samsara, the aggregates planted by the causes and conditions of self and others mature completely, and various consciousnesses arise, such as dizziness and fainting. In this appearance, foolish and ignorant people, failing to realize that their own mind is an appearance, make assumptions about its existence or non-existence. When one examines with wisdom, coarse and subtle, when examining the atoms of form, there are no parts to the atom. When one knows this, one sees everything as empty, like seeing houses, villages, and forests. Like someone with cataracts seeing tangled hair, by the power of obscuring emptiness, one thinks there are only rabbit horns, horse horns, donkey horns, and mule horns. This is the intention of the all-knowing one. But how can one see and not see by examining with wisdom? As it comes from the Prajnaparamita, meditating on unpleasant things, such as decomposition, dissection, and nakedness, is also a way of not seeing. If it is not an appearance obscured by the mind, then the nature of external objects is also invisible, let alone distinguishing between beauty and ugliness? Dualistic consciousness is also like dizziness and fainting, arising from confusion. When viewed with wisdom, the appearance of duality is also emptiness. When one clings to external objects, and all appearances arise only from consciousness and have no birth, then those born from being obscured by ignorance without samadhi can also understand that they are emptiness. With wisdom in samadhi, one does not see signs. There is no desire in the mind, and likewise, there is no attachment to those who are obscured, so there is no attention. If awakening arises without attention, then there is no thought. In the non-dual ultimate truth, in the non-dual complete enlightenment, one becomes a perfectly enlightened Buddha, driven by the habit of great compassion.
