Intoxicated with pure samadhi, they dwell in the realm of the uncontaminated. As it is said in the Seven Hundred Treatises: This is nirvana. What is it? It is 'no thought.' Having arisen from the samadhi of no mind, they roar the lion's roar, saying, 'My birth is exhausted,' and so forth. Likewise, even though Bodhisattvas abandon afflictions on the fifth and sixth bhumis, they do not have the notion of nirvana. Because they fully understand the selflessness of persons and fully understand momentary destruction, noble Shravakas become weary of the aggregates. Bodhisattvas, having fully understood the selflessness of phenomena and persons, do not fear samsara, which is like dreams and illusions, but enter into it with compassion. Other great intellects, because they fully understand 'self' and so forth, seek nirvana, but do not comprehend momentary destruction. Others, understanding that suffering arises from causes, become those with a mind for nirvana. These are the Samkhyas and others who are free from external desire, but they do not see the selflessness of phenomena and cling to external objects, so there is no liberation. If liberation comes from fully understanding the two selflessnesses that abandon wrong views, then they do not have that. As long as wrong views exist, there is no abandonment of ignorance, and samsara arises from ignorance. Nirvana comes from correct knowledge, so the All-Knowing One intended. The heretics perceive the unborn as born. Due to wrong views, they assert permanence, self, Brahma, Ishvara, the Lord, time, elements, atoms, and so forth as causes. They believe that the eternal Brahma, Ishvara, and so on manifest things, and they cling to sacrifices, fire offerings, bathing, auspiciousness, inauspiciousness, songs and dances, holding jewels and roots, mixtures and impurities, cold, heat, being scorched by the sun, pulling out hair, rolling on thorns, living with mouths open, and so forth, which are obstacles to meditation.
