Just as when rays of light appear in the realm of form, they appear as that color, but the color is neither the same as the rays of light, nor different, similarly, the seven consciousnesses arise from the ālaya-vijñāna. Salt has many colors, and it is established in this way as well. The garden of blue lotuses appears, the sun's feet become blue. Bound by sacred weapons, like iron chains and iron rings. The feet are the rays of light, etc., because of the accumulation of habits of virtue and non-virtue, etc., it is the mind, the mind is the ālaya-vijñāna. The mind that grasps at self is the manas. That which grasps objects is called vijñāna. That is to say, the Bhagavan spoke for the sake of conventional terms, saying that the names are different, but in reality, the eight are not different entities. The consciousnesses are not of a nature different from the ālaya-vijñāna. Characteristics are individual marks, and because the basis of characteristics and the characteristics are not different, the characteristics are not different. As it appears in the Madhyamaka: If the signified and the characteristic are different, then the name will be without characteristic. If they are one, then the two are not established, and if they are different, there is no otherness. The ocean and the waves, because they are similar to water, are not different, similarly, sentient beings and consciousnesses, except for water, are completely transformed, and difference is not observed. The mind is the collection of all things, etc., the mind is the proximate cause of the ālaya-vijñāna, etc. The manas is also of the nature of discriminating in various ways, approaching with many names, etc. Vijñāna is the knowledge of the fruits of virtue and non-virtue by the sense consciousnesses, and the accurate feeling, the appearance of the five elements of sentient beings, the object is called external. If the ocean and the waves are not different, then how are the ālaya and the sense consciousnesses, which have the appearance of blue, etc., common dharmas? It is said that the colors of blue, etc., enter the mind for the sake of the meaning of the characteristic. For whom is it sought, it is for the children. That which does not enter into it is color. What?
