It should be examined in this way. The vow that has been made is not lost, and it is not reasonable for existence and non-existence, because there is no agent, etc. Because existence and non-existence are the same, opening the gap, everything is either existent or non-existent in all places. For those who say that existence and non-existence arise, there is no definite cause. The so-called condition of the three assemblies is that the three assemblies themselves are the condition, the cause. Its function can be either the order of the past, etc., or at the same time. The characteristic of the three assemblies should be that the causes are observed close to each other. For example, the eye and the condition of the form produce eye consciousness, and the three gatherings are called touch. Its immediate condition and manifestation, as well as uninterruptedness, etc., are also causes. Therefore, the eye, etc., which is constant and corresponds to the previous experience of recollection, etc., has a clear consciousness, and the corresponding discriminating consciousness arises and ceases, but there is no thought. The cause of the existence of these consciousnesses at the beginning and the end, the Alaya consciousness, is constant, and it should be inferred in this way. In dreams, the eye, etc., and the object are not there, and the nature of everything, that itself exists, is experienced directly. Some Naiyayikas believe that the sense and the object are combined, and the consciousness that arises from this immediate cause does not become unindicatable, and the nature of non-deception, that is the consciousness of the nature of direct perception. Some Vaisheshikas believe that what arises from the combination of self, mind, and sense and object is considered to be direct perception. The Samkhyas believe that the ear, skin, eye, nose, and tongue, which are blessed by the mind and act, are the characteristics of direct perception, and are direct perception प्रमाण (Sanskrit: pramāṇa, Romanization: pramana, literal meaning: measure). The Carvakas believe that when the puruṣa (Sanskrit: puruṣa, Romanization: purusa, literal meaning: man) and the sense are combined, wisdom arises, and that is direct perception. First establish it, and then establish other measures such as inference. The Vaisheshikas believe that the general and the different objects are direct perception. Everything takes inference as a measure, starting from the first establishment of direct perception. The Carvakas believe

Closeness is direct perception. Distance is inference, therefore, there is no obscurity regarding the meaning. All these are because my mind has not comprehended the appearances, so it is further increased in meaning, and there is universal discrimination of terms such as agent, actor, valid cognition, object of valid cognition, speaker, and what is spoken. In dreams and so on, there is also discrimination of the aspects that appear as the grasped and the grasper, the doer and the agent, the produced and the producer. For the momentary, phenomena such as arising, abiding, and ceasing do not exist elsewhere. As it appears in the Middle Way: If arising is conditioned, then it should have three characteristics; but if arising is unconditioned, how can the characteristics of the conditioned be established? Therefore, for existence and non-existence, the phenomena such as those produced by the doer and the agent are unreasonable. For the two selflessnesses of phenomena and persons, also imputing production and so on to external objects, these should not be regarded as other. Whatever are phenomena of duality, like dreams and illusions, all are unborn, therefore existence and non-existence cannot arise. The term "for these" refers to those who speak of existence and non-existence, and so on. Non-existence does not arise, and non-existence does not cease. The three times of the Samkhyas are the past, the future, and the present. Regarding what is called the characteristic of the nature of cause and effect, etc., the so-called "the characteristic of existence and non-existence exists" refers to the general characteristic of what is manifestly existent and universally existent, which is endowed with qualities, substance, and action. Having qualities is the cause of connection. What is called having substance, etc., is a distinction, showing that the characteristics of the past, etc., exist. The statement that arising comes from existence and non-existence contradicts the vow. If it exists, how can it arise? If non-existence arises, how can a non-thing arise? It does not produce anything at all, this is the cessation of action. Therefore, like dreams and illusions, dependent arising is empty at the beginning and the end, and the middle is grasping and
