Like the power of fire, life arises like a bubble of water, consciousness manifests in the body of a man, and the assembled body is named as a sense faculty. All those who speak of external things, because they do not understand the appearance of my own mind, discriminate the fruit from existence, non-existence, and both. Existence, non-existence, agent, and action cannot arise in relation to each other. Existence is because there is no action. Non-existence is merely discrimination because there is no thing. If one says that non-existence acts, then how does action arise for a non-existent thing? This is actually a negation of action. As the all-knowing one said: Fruit does not arise from existence and non-existence. Neither existence nor non-existence is caused by conditions. How then can things arise from causes? However, the bodhisattva of the first ground argues in the Middle Way: For existence and non-existence, the meaning of conditions is not valid. If it does not exist, whose are the conditions? If it exists, what do the conditions do later? Therefore, existence and non-existence, separated from the agent and action, cannot be done as an act. When the moment of the cause exists, the moment of the effect does not exist. How can a thing and a non-thing be related? One moment is not related to anyone. After the former, this will exist, which is dependent arising, and karma and fruit are necessarily related. Therefore, the establishment of defilement and purification for virtuous and non-virtuous actions is not existence and non-existence, nor is everything immediately produced from everything. How is this? It arises immediately from some joy, but not from causelessness, like the hair of a tortoise, Mount Geya, the son of a barren woman, and the lotus of the sky. Eye consciousness, etc., is also not born from causelessness, although it is empty at the beginning and end, it will arise from the cause of the aggregation of causes and conditions. When the three meet, the moments of the past, future, and present, or the characteristics of the agent, action, and act
