In the commentary on the *Earth Treatise*, it says: 'Son of lineage, conditioned and unconditioned, these are the words observed by the teacher.' Whether one uses conditioned or unconditioned, once it becomes conditioned, it is momentary. If one thinks of it as permanent and it becomes unconditioned, then it is not momentary. If it thus perishes in an instant, then at the time of being subject to others and being fully accomplished, through thought, it will become conditioned and unconditioned. If indeed there is no momentary destruction, then what is the difference between what is realized by the Sugata and the Tirthikas? Some say that just as there is no permanent thing, so there is no momentary thing. As it says in the *Ratnavali*: 'The arising, abiding, and ceasing of a moment, and the characteristic of impermanence, when successively in accordance with the Dharma, in that way the moment will diminish.' The noble Nagarjuna said: 'A moment has an end, one should understand the beginning and the middle as well. Therefore, since there are three moments, the moment does not abide in the world. The parts of the beginning, middle, and end, one should also understand. The beginning, middle, and end exist, the aggregate has no unity.' And so on. Therefore, it is also not permissible to speak of six moments as do the Samkhya and Nyaya schools. Those who, like understanding the sound of a sesame pod, include the moment that is separated from the sequence of the first and last times, such discursive thought is not allowed. The moments that are separated from the sequence of the first and last times are because of manifestation. Through the observation of the unconditioned, the self-luminous, the nature of perfectly awakened Dharma, that is the original existence. Beings considering the Tathagatagarbha as the basis, etc., is not done by anyone. The Tathagatagarbha is self-luminous and non-dual, such a form is the realm of the Tathagata. Separated from the difference of the sequence of former and later times, experiencing the continuum of moments, separated from the discursive thought that appears as the different branches of the first, middle, and last moments. As it says in the *Madhyamaka*: 'If birth is before'
