When form is analyzed into atoms, the parts of atoms are non-existent. What then is the object of focus? Thus, and even when external objects are absent, the mind appears in two aspects. That is, when wisdom analyzes and separates the gross and subtle parts, like houses, villages, forests, etc., when seen as emptiness, then the aspects of both the Alaya consciousness change. The naturally pure mind-continuum, without duality, like gold, is free from impurities, and only upon this is samsara established. The consciousnesses of the eye, etc., which perish, are momentary. Since the momentary does not connect to another, the mind itself has access to the times of existence and liberation. The seven consciousnesses are the six consciousnesses of the eye, etc., and the afflicted mind that constantly engages in self-grasping, making seven. When dwelling in formless samadhi, the seven have no appearance. Since they have no object, solely by the power of fully ripened ignorance, like dizziness, fainting, etc., various different aspects of consciousness appear in samsara. Similarly, just as different waves appear in the different levels of the ocean's water, so too, in the different levels of transformation into Alaya consciousness, the seven consciousnesses and objects arise. That which is free from the fault of impermanence is the stable. That which is transformed from speaking of self is the Alaya consciousness that arises in the stream of moments. Thus it is proclaimed, free from all sudden dualistic defilements, like gold, without defilement, naturally completely pure, is repeatedly spoken of. The seven are momentary, born from the cause of unreal imputation, focusing on the appearance and distinctions of shapes. This is how the venerable Lord Maitreya explained unreal imputation: 'Unreal imputation, mind and mental factors, the three realms, in that, the meaning-seeing consciousness, its distinctions arise from the mind.' Thus it is. Disturbed by the power of one's own and others' continuums, the fully ripened ignorance that cannot remain in equanimity, and permanence, and self and what belongs to self.

Attachment, as well as various actions arising from afflictive emotions such as desire and hatred, are the cause of generating appearances in the three realms. Just as in dreams, dizziness, fainting, and so on, the objects and subjects of experience are merely their own appearances, and the consciousnesses of the eye and so on enter into them. Since they have no external objects of reference, they are objects of reference generated by unreal conceptualization. Attachment to names and signs is generated by unreal conceptualization in the manner of expressing sounds and meanings. A name refers to what can be expressed, such as form. A sign refers to characteristics such as beauty, ugliness, female, and male. The cause of attachment is understanding the form and characteristics that appear to one's own mind, just as one understands the dim form, dreams, and optical illusions that appear to one's own mind. The statement "not experiencing pleasure and pain" means that there is no connection of self-nature in samsara. Since the consciousnesses of the eye and so on are only momentary, they do not connect to another moment, and therefore it is considered not to be a cause of liberation. Therefore, if the mind connects from one moment to another and revolves in samsara, then one will experience pleasure and pain through one's own actions. The Omniscient One considers that since the consciousnesses of the eye and so on are momentary, one does not experience pleasure and pain in another existence. The statement "experiencing pleasure and pain through the action of feeling in this visible dharma" means that due to the differences in field and intention, consciousnesses will experience pleasure and pain through the action of feeling in this visible dharma. Therefore: Whoever's cessation is without sorrow, Loving Arhat fruit, Doing benefit and harm to them, The fruits, though many, will be experienced. Although it is said like this, the intention of the Omniscient One is that when the body is completely destroyed, the consciousnesses of the senses do not connect to another moment. From birth, with the action of feeling, whichever continuum is severed, other bodies and senses will arise again.
