The unique things are also like fire, not dual. Likewise, being in accordance with qualities such as heat and manifestation, it is unique. Because of different manifestations, it is also different, just like the fire in grass, leaves, and sandalwood, etc. How those things arise from hearing, like the small sparks of fire rising up, from those things arises dense consciousness. Following those things, there is what is called destruction, etc. As the Great God said: Just as there is fire in wood, just as there is water in the earth, likewise in all beings' bodies, peace and purity abide. This is an examination of the nature of depravity. The lord of mantras and the one with mind are called two kinds of people. Beyond mantras and the mantra itself, the supreme自在主 has two kinds. The one who desires to belong also said: For this knowledge there is close reliance, my Dharma companions who have arrived, will neither be born in the heavens, nor will there be loss from complete destruction. Bhadrahari also said in accordance with the edge of the vidyā-mantra: Its one feeling also manifests in many forms. The firebrand that arises from destruction is like water in a mass of water. Therefore, now the wise ones of stone, the city of manifestation will not change, like clouds accompanied by rain, arising from the wind. It appears in the form of the three, for those who speak different languages, the supreme one completely changes, bound by different views. Peaceful and aware Brahma, the ignorance that arises from that, is therefore named like a Rakshasa, those who cannot speak. Just as the sky is completely clear, by the bewildered person of Mount Meru, with various kinds of drawings, it is thought to be completely filled. Thus, this Brahma nectar, the unchanging ignorance, made like turbidity, appears as different forms. This is explained in detail in the Brahma Tantra. Therefore, the Tathāgatagarbha is devoid of a permanent self, the ignorance that does not equate self and other, and the power of the maturation of karma, manifests the various different forms of samsara. There is also no external meaning to me, especially the gross and subtle earth substances examined by those with distinctions, etc.

If we examine houses, villages, forests, and so on, we find that they are all empty. Therefore, not clinging to the appearance of duality, the Tathagatagarbha, which is luminous by nature and arises momentarily, is not understood, and thus becomes associated with the actions of the three combined conditions, and so on. Here, the three combined refer to the combination of ignorance, craving, and karma, due to which samsara revolves. This is the meaning understood by all the wise. Those non-Buddhists who are attached to and infatuated with causes do not understand this, as they consider permanence, self, Brahma, Ishvara, and so on as causes. Such clinging is false, like the son of a barren woman. If it were one, there would be the fault of no difference between liberation and non-liberation, wealth and poverty, as previously stated. If one has already detached from desire, then how would one care about the suffering of others? How would the peak exist in that one? If one has not detached from desire, then who caused ignorance? Therefore, the Alaya-vijñana, which is said to be tainted by the habits of beginningless delusion and negative karma in various ways, and the seven consciousnesses that arise from the place of ignorance, and so on, are due to the influence of one's own and others' continuums, and together with the seven consciousnesses, like the waves of a great ocean, the continuum of the body continues constantly, free from the fault of impermanence, contrary to the view of clinging to self, and only the single consciousness that is completely pure by nature can enter. Just as in a dream, even without objects such as form and without consciousnesses such as the eye, there still appears the single consciousness of various objects and subjects, similarly, even when not disturbed by sleep, due to the power of fully ripened ignorance, the body, enjoyment, and place appear. In the *Alaya-vijñana Universally Arising Sutra*, it says: "The body and enjoyment, the place appear, the Alaya-vijñana universally arises, the eight and nine consciousnesses are also the same, like the waves of the ocean." Here, the Blessed One spoke. The Blessed One also said: "There is no external form to grasp."
