Because it is not. As it is said: If speech is uttered, great doubt arises about the meaning. Thus, seeing directly, one becomes certain from the signs. Thus, just as one infers from the aspects of the meaning of speech, clarifying the characteristics of the particular from the general, similarly, the meaning of speech, even from the general, becomes its own nature, separate from speech. Without thought and without appearance, the noble bodhisattva enters into the nature of reality, which is the non-duality of ultimate truth, with the nature of righteous knowledge. The Omniscient One establishes the meaning of speech through direct perception and inference. Furthermore, great wisdom, unborn, unceasing, naturally completely liberated from suffering, the three vehicles are one vehicle, the five dharmas, mind, nature, and so on, are established just as they are in speech, and based on that establishment, it is said to be established. The Omniscient One says that one should not speak just as it is in speech. Regarding entering into the general meaning of speech and meaning, one should examine something without contradicting reason and scripture. That is, if one holds to dharmas such as unborn and naturally liberated from suffering as if they were the child of a barren woman, then how can one establish defilement and purification at that time? Therefore, one should know the definitive meaning through the guiding meanings. That is, if there is no difference in meaning for such things as unborn, unceasing, and naturally liberated from suffering, then at that time there is no samsara or nirvana for sentient beings. What is the Dharma? Who teaches it to whom? Why? The three vehicles are one vehicle, and one should also know the difference in intention there. In the Lotus Sutra of the Sacred Dharma, it is said that the cause of vows is that I speak of nirvana. Here it is also said: Those intoxicated with samadhi abide in the realm of the uncontaminated. In the Saṃdhinirmocana Sutra, it is said that those who have the seed of compassion are able to become Buddhas. Those who are free from attachment to one side of peace abide in peace itself. Thus, one should guide with the sacred Dharma and the definitive meaning.

In order to fully understand the distinctions, one should become wise. The five dharmas refer to the examination of their names, etc., and belong to the other-powered and the perfectly established. Among them, distinguishing between name, characteristic, discrimination, correct knowledge, and suchness is called the five dharmas. Among them, name is included in the completely imputed. Characteristic is the ālaya-vijñāna, the body, enjoyment, and place appearing as other-powered. It itself is discrimination, therefore it is included in discrimination. In particular, it is the completely imputed, because there is no object of discrimination, etc., therefore it is without object. From the perspective of the holy Dharma, this is the difference between discrimination and the completely imputed. From the distinction of the middle and the extremes, correct knowledge and suchness are the nature of the perfectly established as spoken by Maitreya. Therefore, correct knowledge and suchness are included in the perfectly established. When the five dharmas are included in the noble truths, the defiled aspects are suffering and origin, and the pure aspects are cessation and path. If it is only according to the literal meaning, one cannot distinguish the meaning of the holy Dharma. Therefore, one should not cling to the literal meaning. One should measure according to the meaning of reason and the holy teachings. From the sutras such as the "Double Sutra" where it appears "one obtains merit like the sands of the Ganges River," one should understand it as a separate meaning. Generating the mind of enlightenment for all sentient beings is equality, having faith in the Dharma and equality, etc., because I obtain merit for obtaining equality with the Buddha, one should examine the intention of the Omniscient One. The merit of a Bodhisattva, accumulated over countless eons, if one holds this dhāraṇī mantra, one month can overwhelm everything. This also shows that the merit of generosity, discipline, and thought is overwhelmed by the merit of meditation. The previous merit of generosity is not even one percent of the merit of meditation, etc., reading in the holy Dharma such as the "Diamond Sutra," one should examine the Buddha's intention. Here is an explanation of the holy Dharma, the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*.
