It is unreasonable for those two. For those who say that external objects are real, how can one thing have multiple forms? Isn't it said by the senses that one form is just one? If that is said, then at any time, how can multiple forms be one? If that were the case, all beings would become one form, and the distinctions of rich and poor, liberated and unliberated, etc., would not be determined, and the actions of cold, heat, blue, yellow, etc., would become the same fault. Therefore, for externalists such as the Samkhyas, the nature of external objects such as white and blue is unreasonable as multiple natures. To look at error, what is its owner, possession, belonging, and possessor, and what is the form of the error, that is not right. If, because there are various kinds of errors, there is no multiplicity of consciousness, then at that time, relying on errors such as blurred vision, the nature of the meaning of words will become endless. As analyzed by Bhartrhari, how do those who argue that all objects of perception are external universally contemplate? Just as lamps and the like appear as blue and red, the feathers of peacocks appear with splendor, and in the mandala of illusionists, they can all be universally seen. When one thing to be known cannot have multiple forms, then consciousness can only be with form. Just like that, how is it that wisdom is related to external objects for the sake of forms such as blue? If there are no forms such as blue in wisdom, how does it experience that? Just like this, when consciousness with form exists, what external object is there other than it? Or, if consciousness has no form, then this is a blue experience, not a yellow experience, how can consciousness without form experience a formless experience? Habitual tendencies have no form in wisdom, objects have form, the debaters say so, if many forms appear to a person with blurred vision, why are there so many things? If that is the case, why don't others grasp it? Therefore, for those who say that consciousness arises from the power of error, the form of multiple forms will appear in consciousness.

Therefore, due to different appearances, there is nothing to say about the terms of valid cognition and object of valid cognition, and the difference between sound and meaning. When one examines with wisdom, scrutinizing the gross and subtle, for the invisible, there is no thought, no appearance, in the non-duality of ultimate truth, knowing things and non-things, abiding in non-discrimination. Awakened by the habit of compassion, from the pure samadhi with worldly appearances, the terms of sound and meaning of the all-knowing arise: With discrimination and faith, when abiding on the worldly path, knowing and separately speaking are like children and the wise. Therefore, like this, relying on the meaning of sound, he said: Because sound is speech, when meaning is believed, that is said to be the meaning of sound, the nature of meaning is not other. Great wisdom, if sound and meaning are different, then the cause that makes meaning clear is not sound, just as a lamp follows wealth, sound also follows meaning. For example, great wisdom, someone holding a lamp says: There is such wealth in this direction, looking at the wealth, this is relative to permanence, sound is the cause of making it clear, but not the maker, like flags and so on. Because, from the speech of sound, the meaning is believed, that is the meaning of sound, not other, thus the all-knowing one contemplates. Similarly, great wisdom, with the lamp of sound that discriminates into words, great Bodhisattvas follow the object of meaning that is self-realized by each, free from the discrimination of words, that is to say, all sounds that abide in things and non-things, and both, for the realm of appearance and non-appearance, are generally fabricated as the meaning of sound, proclaiming it to be the cause of making it clear, but not the maker, because when sounds are applied to the meaning of general investigation, they proclaim their own nature. Therefore, those are clarified by the terms of investigation, and there is no connection with the sound and meaning of self-nature, not cause and effect, those are inseparable things.
