Because things appear only as mind, they are like illusions. Because they arise from deceptive causes, they are not truly born. Saying this, it is said to be a word of no birth. Because it is in accordance with the Dharma of illusion, it is said that things are not born, which is to understand the meaning of external objects. Saying that all things are not born like illusions is to explain that things are different from each other. Because of this doubt, the All-Knowing One spoke. Again, indicating things, and so on. Indicating things is to understand the connection between actions and results. This is the summarized meaning. In order to prevent permanence, self, etc., and attachment to external objects, it is said that things do not arise like illusions. This is what is indicated. The heretics, because they pervert what is not true as if it were true, fabricate permanence, self, external objects, etc., as well as the agent and the action, deceiving themselves and others. To those, the Mind-Only should be explained as it is in reality. Many speakers are confused about sound and meaning. Some think that on top of the expression of external objects, sound and meaning are always related, and in order to dispel the ignorance of those people, the All-Knowing One explained the true nature of sound and meaning. Where do things exist? That is, what is said, the characteristic of entering, the inversion different from it, and such a form is the name, and the collection, body, and place are its synonyms. This is not the name of other words. The collection of words is the collection of the meanings of words, and the All-Knowing One considers this to be the meaning of expression. Therefore, from these two, meanings will inevitably arise. The many syllables combined for the sake of constant meaning are the collection of letters, called the collection of syllables. What appears is the connection of those, and the characteristic of connecting meanings into various forms, arranged in different ways in order, like the ocean, dance, tender branches, and the Tala tree. Therefore, in that order, the name and the collection of words will appear.
