Illuminating with white light, riding on a white bull's chariot, gazing at the white lotus, and teaching the Dharma, white is the basis of all colors. To show that the One Vehicle is also the root of all vehicles, the white lotus is used as an example. In this sutra, the cause, effect, reason, and wisdom are mainly explained, hence it is called the "White Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma." This is to attain the supreme body that reveals the light of the Tathagata's wisdom. Relying on the wisdom of the lineage lord, entering the realm of the Tathagata's conduct, its cause also abides in the One Vehicle, and reaching the supreme state should be regarded as the fruit of the One Vehicle. Moreover, this Dharma is called lotus, and it also has two meanings: growing from water and opening. To transcend the muddy water of the Two Vehicles, and to open the door of righteousness by relying on the sacred scriptures. Furthermore, the inconceivable thought of the Tathagata, which is difficult to understand and realize, is called the Holy Dharma, because realization is extremely profound and the scriptures are extremely profound. Sutra, Vinaya, Shastra, and Fruit, all are the One Vehicle, therefore it is also called the "White Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Dharma." Among them, the Sutra is the tool for proclaiming the sacred scriptures, the Vinaya has the power to extract what should be abandoned from the water, the Shastra has the power to ripen the fruit, and the Fruit is to make what is accomplished by the cause meaningful.

chapter, and the chapter on the merits of the six pure senses, and the chapter on Sadāparibhūta, and the chapter on the manifestation of the supernatural powers of the Tathāgata, and the chapter on dhāraṇī mantras, and the chapter on the past deeds of King Bhaishajyarāja, and the chapter on Gadgadasvara, and the chapter on the Universal Gate, and the chapter on the past deeds of King Subhavyūha, and the chapter on Samantabhadra's exhortation, and the chapter on Entrustment. These chapters are also named from the meaning of the Dharma in four ways, named from metaphors in three ways, named from the prayers of Bodhisattvas in four ways, named from meaning in four ways, named from both meaning and Bodhisattvas in nine ways, and two uncertain ways, namely the chapter on Peaceful Practices and the chapter on the Appearance of the Stūpa of Treasures, both of which are uncertain because they are related to both cause and effect. In general, there are twenty-seven. The order of explaining the twenty-seven chapters is as follows: The Tathāgata intends to explain the Dharma, observes the many sentient beings, praises and eliminates ignorance, uses the faculties as a medium, and in order to explain the Dharma in accordance with their respective faculties, he first explains the introductory chapter. After explaining the introductory chapter, he wants to explain the true Dharma itself. Explaining the Dharma of the One Vehicle is also for the benefit of guiding and determining the sharp and dull faculties respectively, so after that he explains the chapter on Skillful Means. After explaining the sharp and dull faculties in order, but still unable to understand the profound meaning, because they cannot understand, so in order to understand by means of metaphors, after that he explains the chapter on Parables. Because they see the profound meaning through metaphors and generate faith, after that he explains the chapter on Faith and Understanding. Even if faith has arisen, it is still not just certainty, so in order to make it firm, he also explains the chapter on the Parable of the Medicinal Herbs. The four great Śrāvakas see the profound meaning, and in order to explain its fruit, after that he explains the chapter on Prophecies. The two sharp and intermediate faculties have already generated knowledge, but in order for the dull faculties to repeatedly recite and understand, he explains the chapter on the Parable of the City of Past Events. The sharp faculties have already understood the meaning.

Just by understanding, and by generating faith and as prophesied, even those with dull faculties can generate realization through repeated recitation. To embody that prophecy, the chapter on the prediction of five hundred monks is taught after that. Just as with the reasoning of faculties, to enable other monks to generate realization as well, the chapter on the prediction of those in training and those beyond training is arranged after that. Since predictions are made separately for the three types of faculties—sharp, medium, and dull—to establish a good model of the Dharma in the long future, the chapter on the Dharma teachers is placed after that. In order to accomplish as prophesied and to generate the initial signs of understanding reality, the chapter on the emergence of stupas of past noble ones is taught. Considering that not only should one understand this meaning oneself, but also benefit others, one manifests as the body of a king to teach the Dharma, so the chapter on past lives is taught after that. To make such a sutra precious and worthy of respect for oneself and others, bodhisattvas request to rejoice, so the chapter on rejoicing is taught after that. To teach those in the future who practice the Dharma improperly how to conduct themselves when afflictions arise in body and mind, the chapter on peaceful practices is taught after that. Just as countless bodhisattvas like the sands of the Ganges River hear this sacred Dharma, rejoice in following and learning it, and make aspirations, to show those who, even before the Buddha Bhagavan, had bodhisattvas free from the defilement of faults, who rose up and aspired to uphold this Dharma, bodhisattvas emerge in large numbers from beneath the earth, so the chapter on the emergence of bodhisattvas from the earth is placed after that. Seeing bodhisattvas emerge from beneath the earth, many in the assembly think that these are all accomplished before Shakyamuni Buddha, and that these are not emanations of Shakyamuni, to dispel this doubt, the Tathagatas are of immeasurable life, so the chapter on the life span of the Tathagata is placed after that. The life span of the emanation body of the Tathagata
