and, resentment, quarreling, deceit, false speech, and pride, making six in total. Among them, what is called violence? It is the delight in harming sentient beings. Holding grudges due to the power of anger is called resentment. Crying and lamenting due to faults is called quarreling. These three are the nature of hatred. Concealing one's own faults and scrutinizing the faults of others, and pretending by conforming to others' minds, is called deceit. Falsely displaying virtues for the sake of respect is called falsehood. These two are the nature of attachment and ignorance. Being attached to prosperity and abundance is called pride, which is the nature of attachment. Because sentient beings have a lot of these six defilements, they are not recognized as practitioners, and they do not practice virtuous Dharma, which is the defilement of sentient beings. Stinginess, miserliness, and jealousy are the defilements of afflictions. Not being able to give away Dharma and wealth is called stinginess. Longing and hoping to obtain wealth that has not been obtained is called greed. The so-called small roots of virtue are attachment, hatred, and ignorance, which are the roots of non-virtue. Thus, because sentient beings have little virtue, gods and humans decrease, and the lower realms increase and arise. Because it is difficult for sentient beings to enter the Great Vehicle all at once, the Buddhas skillfully divided the single Buddha Vehicle into three vehicles to teach. In the sutra, Shariputra, from "in this way" to "one should know that they are not Buddhas," the Tathagata does not teach those who are controlled by pride. For beings who are doubtful, how do they know that they are controlled by pride? There are three aspects to this: showing the characteristics of the unreal two vehicles of noble ones, showing the characteristics of being controlled by pride, and the characteristics of the collection of true noble ones. Here, the unreal is shown. Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, the noble ones who have truly entered into peace, even if they meet the Buddha, mostly do not encounter the Dharma of the Great Vehicle. Whichever faculties are ripened and generate Bodhicitta, they listen immediately after hearing, enter, and,

Having understood, that is the true noble one. If one does not understand in this way, then he is not a close attendant of the Buddha, and it should be recognized that he is not a true noble one. In the sutra, from "Shariputra" to "should be known as arrogant," the characteristics of being dominated by arrogance are shown. That is, an inferior person obtains the fourth dhyana, the afflictions of the three fruits are not exhausted, but he thinks that he has obtained the fruit of an Arhat, thinking that he has obtained the final cessation within the aggregates, and does not desire to become a Buddha, such a person is called arrogant. In the sutra, from "What is the reason for that?" to "is not a dwelling place," the characteristics of the true noble one being included are shown. That is, when encountering a true noble one and entering a state of extreme tranquility, they mostly encounter the Dharma, and even if they cannot practice, they will generate faith and trust. Those who are uncertain will also enter and practice after hearing, therefore, the Tathagata appears, and after hearing this Dharma, there is no possibility of not generating faith, so it is said that it is not a dwelling place. In the sutra, "except for the Nirvana of the Tathagata" shows the doubt of how to become a vessel of Dharma at this time. That is, some people, after hearing the Dharma from the Buddha, will generate a mind of slander, doubting why the Tathagata would say that some people cannot become Buddhas and cannot become vessels of Dharma. Therefore, in order to dispel the doubt of whether it can still be called omniscient wisdom to teach the Dharma to sentient beings who do not become vessels, it is said, "except for the Nirvana of the Tathagata." In the sutra, from "What is the reason for that?" to "will not appear," it is said that after Nirvana, those who are not skilled in means and enter a state of extreme tranquility, even if they encounter this Dharma, the phenomenon of upholding or explaining such a sutra will not appear. In the sutra, from "Shariputra" to "there will be no doubt," it is said that those who encounter the Dharma, even if I have attained Nirvana, if they encounter other Buddhas, through skillful means of teaching, there will be no doubt about this Dharma. In the sutra, from "Shariputra" to "is the vehicle of the Buddha," it is said that the three vehicles have already been taught before, and now one vehicle is to be taught.
