Furthermore, it is explained. The commentary says that if great beings see such wonderful signs, they will feel joyful, thinking that the Tathagata will also teach us the Dharma. This is the perfect cause for teaching. By emitting light, all things in the world are revealed. Moreover, the Bhagavan teaches the Dharma for the benefit of sentient beings, and to make the listeners feel joyful and that it is rare to hear, so it is said to be the cause of teaching. Therefore, the light illuminates distant places. First, the two types of sixfold movement are shown, and then the Dharma is taught. Because the profound Dharma is the realm of one's own realization, first the miracles are shown, and then this Dharma is taught, so it is said to be the cause of teaching. It is also wonderful to show the scattering of heavenly flowers and the shaking of the earth, but the light illuminating everything is the inconceivable sign of showing that the profound Dharma is the realm of one's own realization, so it is said to be the cause of teaching. Emitting light and making places appear is to make people see. This is like first decorating the face with eyebrows, and it also shows that the Mahayana sutras are the main ones. Showing "limits" symbolizes the meaning of the Middle Way. Saying "white" is the basis of all colors, and similarly, this sutra is the basis of the three vehicles. The white hair between the eyebrows is very white, long when stretched, and short when contracted. The light has seven functions: because it is a characteristic of a great person, it can cause beings to generate faith; it eliminates darkness, so it can destroy the land of ignorance; the light symbolizes guidance from the world and the inner teaching is the light of wisdom; touching the light can pacify suffering; touching the light can encourage listening to the Dharma; to create aversion to objects, there are seven in total. It is taught in the context of miraculous powers. The sutra says that from the east through eighteen thousand Buddha lands until the light shines and appears, this is showing the appearance of places. There are eighteen thousand Buddha lands. East refers to...

Just as the stars are the main guide of directions, this teaching is also the main guide of vehicles. Initially appearing there, it is also like the sun initially appearing on the highest mountain, this sutra also initially appears to those with mature faculties. Making sentient beings in hell appear is to pacify suffering; making the heavenly realm appear is to encourage listening to the Mahayana, which is the meaning of pervasive compassion. Sentient beings in hell have no respite, because there is no leisure to experience the torment of suffering. The sutra says that in those Buddha lands, whatever sentient beings there are in the six realms, all appear without exception, which indicates the objects to be manifested, and there are seven types. The six realms and the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, Bodhisattvas and Nirvana, and stupas. That can also be divided into three parts: making sentient beings who wander in samsara appear, making the Three Jewels appear, and showing the conduct of Nirvana. The six realms can also be divided into six aspects: indicating their names, the cause of their arising, indicating classification and summarization, indicating the place, indicating the length of life, and indicating the characteristics of cause and effect. Indicating the name, six, is a number. Realm refers to the afflictions and the aggregates produced by karma, residing in the five aggregates, meaning to go to various realms. Because they enjoy the karma they have created, they are gods. Or those who possess desire and magical powers are gods. Those with many minds are humans. Those tormented by the suffering of hunger are hungry ghosts. Those who go as animals are animals. Because they are the basis for cutting and execution, they are hells. Asuras have already been indicated earlier. The cause of arising is that all six realms are of the nature produced by the consciousness of ripening, which is obscured and unspecified. Regarding summarization and classification, the six realms are summarization. Among them, generating virtue and generating non-virtue are classifications. Or samsara is summarization. The three realms and the four births are classifications. The place is the three realms. The sutra says that in those Buddha lands
