The reason for this naming is also fourfold: Because predictions are given according to the order of faculties, this prediction arises after the prediction of those with sharp faculties; Those with excessive pride who do not practice meditation, for the purpose of gathering their distracted minds, are shown the example of wearing jewels on their bodies as an example of not knowing that they have the root of virtue of the Great Vehicle, and this chapter is taught in order to introduce them to samadhi and the Great Vehicle; This chapter is taught in order to show the unsurpassed among the ten unsurpassed things to be known, and to show that they have the root of virtue of the Great Vehicle; This chapter is taught because it is intended to be equal to the six types of predictions, and to show the prediction itself. Five hundred is a number. Bhikshu is a thing. Prediction is an addition to that meaning. In this chapter, if the meaning is shown by the example of wearing jewels on the body, why is it not named after that but named the Prediction Chapter? If asked in this way, the answer is: Those whose faculties have matured and whose minds have arisen have already been predicted, and after that, an example is shown, so there is no fault in naming it in this way. Furthermore, if two thousand monks in that assembly received predictions, why are only five hundred mentioned here? The answer is: Those monks live in that assembly and do not live in other assemblies, so predictions are given to those who have appeared. Two thousand is a general prediction, but this is a separate prediction, so it is also explained in this way. In the sutra, from "Then the venerable Gangpo Maitreya's son" to "Having heard these," the first is to show respect to the Bhagavan, and then to receive the sacred teachings. At the beginning of that, there is also the ritual of respect and the meaning of receiving. The meaning of receiving also has the meaning of certainty and the meaning of guidance. The greatness of the Bhagavan is that the sign of intending to teach the Dharma is to illuminate with light, and to encourage the assembly with the appearance of the earth shaking and flowers falling, and to praise them. In the sutra, from "It has become wonderful" to "Having prostrated at the feet," the ritual of showing respect to the Bhagavan is shown. In the sutra, from "Wonderful, O Bhagavan" to "Without blinking"

Up to "look," this shows that (the Buddha) knows the thoughts of sentient beings. Before, it showed the inconceivable qualities of the Tathagata. After that, it shows knowing and seeing the various forms of the mind, which only the Buddha can know, and others cannot, so it should be connected in this way. In the sutra, from "Then, the Bhagavan" to "Son of Maitreya, look," it shows the question of the Bhagavan, showing "see this manifestation." In the sutra, from "This is my monk" to "praised by many," it shows the present merits, and that merit, before is a general statement of merit, and after is a distinction of merit. In the sutra, from "In many ways, in my teachings" to "cannot reach the end of others," this shows the difference in merit. In the sutra, from "Monks, what do you think of this" to "The last of the seven Buddhas is me, and among them I am the most excellent in teaching the Dharma," regarding the difference in merit, it is also the Tathagata who holds the Dharma, the retinue rejoices and generates benefits, is skilled in proclaiming the Dharma of the Tathagata, benefits those who practice pure conduct, and becomes one with special courage. The course of emptiness refers to dwelling on the ground of good wisdom, abandoning all doubts. Complete maturation means dwelling on the ground of the cloud of Dharma, benefiting many sentient beings. Purifying the Buddha-field means that those who are not completely liberated from suffering generate Bodhicitta, place it in the Mahayana, and transform it into unsurpassed Bodhi. Transforming into Bodhi itself is benefiting others, and the Buddha's deeds are adorning the Buddha-field. In the sutra, from "Monks, in this fortunate aeon" to "make it fully mature," it is holding the Dharma of the Tathagata and showing the conduct of the Bodhisattva. In the sutra, from "constantly unceasing" to "Buddha, Bhagavan," it is sentient beings.
