This is an explanation of the parable. Among them, regarding distress, the separated person is like someone who is drunk, has gone to another place, or is like being drowsy. This is connected with the first. The so-called "returning home" refers to encountering the teachings of the Mahayana. The so-called "dullness" refers to not having abandoned ignorance. The so-called "sleeping" refers to abiding in samsara. The so-called "jewel" refers to the Mahayana. Just as a wish-fulfilling jewel can produce various necessities, a bodhisattva who solely aspires to the Mahayana can accomplish his wishes. The so-called "knot on the hem of the garment" refers to the habitual tendencies of encountering previous Mahayana spiritual friends. In the sutra, it says, "Then, the Blessed One, that person..." up to "He is very happy," just as those with weak minds see an illusory city, "went elsewhere" refers to entering into other behaviors. Lacking the meaning of the Mahayana and the taste of the Dharma refers to seeking food and clothing. In the sutra, it says, "Then, the Blessed One..." up to "said this," is an example showing the definitive meaning. In the sutra, it says, "Hey, young man, you regarding food and drink..." up to "Do you feel satisfied?" is showing the definitive meaning. The so-called "desire" refers to the five kinds of happiness and suffering, namely, happiness of nature, happiness of cause, happiness of abandonment, happiness of the antidote to afflictions, and happiness of harmlessness. Similarly, the Dharmadhatu of the Tathagatagarbha is completely pure, and the four and five wisdoms should also be considered as happiness to be accomplished. The five aggregates without outflows are also considered happiness, therefore it is called happiness. In the sutra, it says, "Hey, young man, you..." up to "Do all the things," refers to entering the Mahayana, all the qualities are perfected, just like a wish-fulfilling jewel is transformed. In the sutra, it says, "Likewise, the Blessed One..." up to "arose the mind of enlightenment," is connected with the parable and the meaning, and is connected with the qualities of abandonment. In the sutra, it says, "I do not understand, I do not comprehend," this shows the turning away from the mind of enlightenment. In the sutra, it says, "Blessed One, for that reason..." up to "never degenerates," refers to the noble Arhat wasting those difficult practices.

This is because of making aspirations to practice the Mahayana, so it is considered sufficient when wisdom is small. In the sutra, from "Then, Bhagavan, I" to "skillful means," it shows the nature of nirvana combined with the definitive meaning. In the sutra, from "Thus, Bhagavan" to "considering it sufficient, is the teaching of the Sugata," thirteen and a half verses show the harm of faults and the arising of knowledge. In the sutra, from "For example, a certain person" to "very much in accordance with the five desirable qualities," this metaphor is also a metaphor for initially generating bodhicitta, and in the middle, a metaphor for the mind regressing. It shows emptiness, and a metaphor for having supreme bliss because of understanding emptiness. The sutra says, "Likewise, Bhagavan, we are like this," to "We consider a small portion of nirvana to be sufficient," previously showing the meaning of guidance, and also the merit of abandonment, and in the middle, a metaphor for regression. The sutra says, "The unsurpassed one neither desires nor seeks," to "Because the protector prophesies to one another," is a summary of guidance and definitive meaning, and should be understood as much as possible. From here onwards, the chapter on prophesying two thousand monks will be explained, which can be divided into two types. That is, the reason for establishing this chapter, and the explanation of the name of this chapter. There are also two reasons for this: those with sharp faculties are suitable for prophesying after the previous prophecy, and because it is combined with the last of the four prophecies, this chapter is taught. The explanation of the name is: because both learners and non-learners are prophesied in this, it is the prophecy of other two thousand monks. In the sutra, from "Then, Venerable Ananda" to "thinking and wishing," there are two types: the arising of the mind desiring a retinue, and the Bhagavan fulfilling the desire. The desire for a retinue was previously requested by two men, and later by two thousand retinues, this is the first. In the sutra, from "Rising from the seat" to "Please listen to the opportunity," those two men requested the prophecy. The sutra says.
