The nature of the second existence is shown by things such as the establishment of the nature of parikalpita. This can also be divided into three aspects: the establishment of the two grasping of self and dharma, or the establishment of the four prophecies, or the distinction from dharma, which is the display of establishment. This is the first display of the establishment of grasping onto self and dharma. Thus, those who grasp self and dharma as truly existent through parikalpita exist with a non-true mind, and although they do not exist in ultimate truth, they are called establishment because they are grasped as existing following the non-true mind. Therefore, from the treatises that establish only consciousness, although the truly existent self and the truly existent dharma of parikalpita do not exist, they are established following the non-true mind. This is what is shown. The establishment of prophecies by generalizing, distinguishing, asking and answering, and establishing is called the establishment of prophecies, which is the second display of the establishment of the four prophecies. Because the four statements of prophecy are established starting from the dharma of answering opponents, it is called establishment. As it is said in the commentary on the Noble Buddha Land Sutra: The four statements of prophecy are prophecy in one go, prophecy by distinguishing, prophecy by asking, and prophecy by establishing without saying anything. Among them, prophecy in one go is like someone asking: Will all beings inevitably perish? Are the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, the fields of merit, dead? etc. The answer is: This meaning is definitely so, like such a prophecy. Prophecy by distinguishing is like someone asking: Will all those who perish arise? Are the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha only one? etc. The answer is: This meaning is not so certain, like such a prophecy by distinguishing. Prophecy by asking is like someone asking: Are the ten bhumis of the Bodhisattva supreme? Or are they not supreme? The Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha

Is the supreme especially excellent? Or is it not especially excellent? When asked such questions, asking back "According to what are you asking?" is like making a prophecy. Remaining silent without speaking is also considered a prophecy, as when some people ask, "Does the self, as it is called, truly exist? Is it virtuous or non-virtuous?" Or when asking, "Is the widow's daughter white or black?" Remaining silent without speaking in such cases is like making a prophecy, because it should not be prophesied, and it would cause disputes. As such, extensive distinctions can be found in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, the Commentary on the Holy Perfection of Wisdom, the Commentary on the Ten Bhumis, the Great Nirvana Sutra, the Treasury of Knowledge, and in accordance with correct reasoning, and as taught in the Great Commentary. The distinction of prophecy through secrecy and differentiation, which is what this is, is the explanation of the third part, the establishment of secrecy and differentiation. Thus, the Tathagatas teach the Dharma with the establishment of secrecy and differentiation, sometimes secretly and sometimes distinctly, in order to benefit beings according to their faculties. The Treatise on Explanation says, "Speaking of secrecy and differentiation." These two teachings are also inconsistent in their individual explanations, with some saying that what is near in words but far in meaning is called secrecy, as in the Holy Lotus Sutra of the Good Dharma, "Whatever single prostration to the Buddha is uttered, all of those will become Buddhas." What is far in both words and meaning is called differentiation, as in the Holy Sutra Teaching Good Morality, "After countless eons, one will eventually achieve Buddhahood." Others say that what is taught in the Holy Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, that all phenomena are empty and solitary, is called secrecy. What is taught in the Holy Sutra Explaining the Profound Meaning, the three natures complete

In between, it is said that whatever possesses emptiness and whatever possesses non-emptiness is called differentiation. Some say that the teachings of the Lesser Vehicle are called secret. The teachings of the Great Vehicle are called differentiation. Therefore, in the explanation of the treatises, it is said that the secret teachings are like this: most of them are the teachings of the Vinaya Pitaka of the Hearers. The teachings of differentiation are like this: most of them are the teachings of the Mahayana Pitaka. Some say that it is a secret with different meanings. Therefore, in the treatise *Abhidharmasamuccaya*, it is said that the euphemistic meaning is like this: expressing in verses with a collection of names, words, and letters, completely transformed into another meaning, as it is said: Having killed the father and mother, the king and the two pure ones, and having destroyed the country together, that person becomes pure. This is known in the world as a very shameful thing, namely the father, mother, and king, and the two learned Brahmins, and the people of the country, and the evil deed of killing livestock, which is impure, but here it is said to become pure, which shows the intention of another meaning, namely: consciousness together with karma and craving and clinging, and the two kinds of holding vows and views and asceticism as supreme, and the six sense bases, including the object of focus, etc., after taking control, should be regarded as father and mother, etc., in order, because those are similar to the Dharma. As it is widely shown therein. Whatever is consistent in words and meaning is called differentiation, like this, killing the father and so on is a very shameful act, so it is called impure. Serving the father and mother and so on, that is completely pure, just as it is shown. The fault is like this: whatever I have shown to be the innumerable differences of the faults of all afflicted dharmas, those are the third fault.
