Shows the body of liberation. This is also shown in four aspects: asking, answering, observing, and explaining. This is the first request, like this, do those two vehicles, having abandoned the obscurations of afflictions, at the time of attainment, make the Dharmakaya? It is a concluding remark. Son of a lineage, do not say Dharmakaya, this is the second true answer of the Tathagata, although it is manifested by Nirvana, it should not be called Dharmakaya, because it is not the place of the Dharma of merit. Blessed One, then what body should be well spoken of? This is the third question. Son of a lineage, it should be said that the body of liberation, and so on, shows the true explanation of the Tathagata. This is also of two aspects: a brief explanation of the nature of liberation and an explanation of the characteristics of difference. This is the first brief explanation, like this, because it is liberated from the bondage of afflictions, it is called the body of liberation, which is the concluding remark. For the sake of the body of liberation, all the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas are equal and identical to the Tathagatas, and so on, which shows the second difference in the nature of the two bodies. This is also of two aspects: starting from the body of liberation, it shows that the three vehicles are not different, and starting from the Dharmakaya, it shows that there are differences. This is the first. In this way, those two vehicles are also the same as the Tathagatas because they have abandoned afflictions and there is no difference, and because there is no difference in obtaining individual observations, they are equal and identical to the Tathagatas, as stated. However, the meaning is also inconsistent with the individual explanations, so the Sarvastivada school explains it in two ways. Therefore, in the great commentary on the treatise, some observers say that it should be said like this: as many as there are profound Dharma natures, so many individual observations follow. Should be bound

Just as many are the entities that bind, so too are the entities that are liberated. When minds are individually examined and attained, is the attainment from each one the same, or does it become common? Some teachers say that different attainments are obtained from each one. If that is the case, then it should be understood and explained as stated in the sutras, as it is said: The liberation of the Tathagata and the liberation of other Arhats, etc., are non-dual. Answer: Although the liberations present in the streams of the Great Vehicle are different, it is taught that there is no difference because they are always the same in virtue. Furthermore, those with the same stream of continuity are similar in attaining liberation because they possess the lineage of the three vehicles. Thus, although they are individually different in relation to the attainment of liberation present in the streams of others, because one stream possesses the lineage of the three vehicles and is the same in attaining liberation, whichever vehicle is relied upon to generate the noble path, one will attain this Nirvana. The examiners said: Therefore, it should be said that as many kinds of sentient beings as there are, so many natures analyzed from each defiled dharma will be attained. Because the examiners manifest to show the common cessation, it is said that liberation is also inconceivable, as shown in detail therein. The scriptures of the Sutra school say that because abandoning afflictions and manifesting cessation are the same, the word 'same' is used to show that they are the same only in analysis. The similarity and difference shown by others who have a separate self do not exist, because the cessation of analysis accepted by their scriptures is without self. Here, too, in the teachings of the Great Vehicle, because it shows that there is an analytical cessation for such a one, it is not the same as the Sarvastivadins. Because it is established only by analyzing suchness, it is not the same as the Sutra school.

Some say that the Dharmakāya mentioned here includes wisdom, abandonment, and the fivefold Dharmakāya. Although there are two explanations, the former is correct. Because "the difference is shown for the sake of the Dharmakāya," etc., the second begins with the Dharmakāya and shows the difference. This also has two aspects: a summary explanation and a correct explanation. This is a summary explanation: because the two obscurations have been abandoned and it has become the abode of immeasurable qualities, there is a difference. This is a concluding statement. Because of the distinction of the Dharmakāya of the Tathāgata, it is also superior due to immeasurable qualities, because it is not easy to count or exemplify. This second one is the explanation that shows the existence of differences. In this way, because the Dharmakāya possesses distinctions, the various distinctions of the immeasurable qualities that are superior cannot be understood by examples, etc. Or, because they have become the basis of immeasurable qualities, those who are superior are different from the two vehicles, so counting and exemplifying are not easy. This is the characteristic of the difference between the two bodies. Furthermore, in the commentary on the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha*, it says: "The difference between the Dharmakāya and the Nirmāṇakāya is this: Nirmāṇakāya is merely liberation from the bonds of affliction. For example, if a villager is freed from the bonds of iron chains, etc., only the result of suffering disappears, but he does not possess greater power than that. The Dharmakāya is liberation from afflictions, including habitual tendencies, and from the obscuration of knowledge. It is adorned with many wonderful qualities such as strength and fearlessness, and is the abode of all wealth. Having attained the supreme independence by acting as one wishes. For example, the king's son is crowned from the head as soon as he is freed from bondage, and possesses perfect power and supreme authority." This is also stated in the commentary on the *Laṅkāvatāra Sūtra*. Furthermore, in various treatises
