The eon of Ra is initially reduced from immeasurable to ten years, with eighteen increases and decreases in between, and finally from increase to eighty thousand years. That which is formed and abides in this way is called the intermediate eon. The time of formation, destruction, and abiding in emptiness after destruction is also the same, so the abiding eon is eighty intermediate eons. So, the great eon is what is called the immeasurable eon. Furthermore, from that, the formation, abiding, destruction, and emptiness shown in this way each have twenty intermediate eons, so they become eighty. By gathering these eighty, the measure of the great eon will be manifestly accomplished. This is the intermediate display. What is the nature of what is called an eon? It is just these five aggregates. In the sutras, it is said that one attains Buddhahood by diligently striving in three immeasurable eons. So, from the four eons previously shown, by accumulating which eons will three immeasurable eons be manifestly accomplished? From accumulating the previous ten great eons and eight thousand great eons, similarly, accumulating up to three immeasurable eons. If it is said to be immeasurable, why is it also said to be three? Because the word that is not immeasurable greatly shows the immeasurable. In the Vimoksha Sutra, it is said that among the sixty types of numbers, what is called immeasurable is the name of one number, from there to the middle of the extensive explanation. Therefore, what is called immeasurable is the fifty-second name, just as the recitations and transmissions recite the last eight. In the treatise *Mahavibhasa*, it is shown that what is called immeasurable is the fifty-second of the sixty numbers. Alternatively, what is called immeasurable is the name of the sixty numbers, because the recitations and transmissions recite the names of the previous ones. In the chapter on immeasurable numbers from the Holy *Avatamsaka Sutra*, it says that from the one hundred and twenty transformations of numbers, the one hundred and third is called immeasurable.

From the commentary on the Noble Wisdom Gone Beyond, it is said that among the eleven multiplications by numbers, the eleventh number is called "innumerable." Furthermore, from the commentary on the Noble Wisdom Gone Beyond, based on the Sutra of Inconceivability, it is said that one hundred and twenty-two numbers are called "innumerable," which is the name of the one hundred and seventh number. It should be understood as explained in the teachings on characteristics that are widely differentiated. Does a Bodhisattva need three countless eons to manifestly accomplish great Bodhi, or is it uncertain? It is said: From the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, the Compendium of Topics, the Sutra on the Noble Teaching of Good Morality, and the Commentary on the Great Vehicle Compendium by Asanga, it is said that three countless eons are definitely required. However, from the Sutra of Noble Immeasurable Meaning and the Avatamsaka Sutra, etc., it is said that Buddhahood can be attained even without completing three countless eons. From the Sutra of the Noble Wisdom Gone Beyond, it is said that by practicing for three countless eons, Buddhahood is attained. That sutra does not say so, because it is accomplished by immeasurable eons. The Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara also said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, what are the characteristics of the arising of afflictions on those grounds for those Bodhisattvas? What are the faults? And what are the qualities that should be known? From here onwards, it is the fourth part, which teaches the detailed distinctions of the Bodhisattva's afflictions, faults, and qualities. This is also shown through asking and answering, and the intention of the request should be understood as in the answer. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: Son of good family, the characteristic of being completely free from afflictions, etc., is the second part, which shows the Blessed One's correct answer. This is also divided into three aspects from the answers to the three questions asked earlier, this is asking.
