It is not merely dependent on false doctrines and false conceptions, therefore it is called 'Parikalpita' (imputational). The details are as stated in the sutras themselves. Here, the 'non-co-emergent pervasive afflictions' refer to the afflictions of Parikalpita that are abandoned by the path of seeing. 'Co-emergent' refers to the afflictions that are associated with the six consciousnesses and are abandoned by the path of cultivation. Before the path of seeing, they arise mutually helping each other, but after the path of seeing, because the afflictions abandoned by the path of seeing have destroyed the companions of the non-co-emergent afflictions, it is called 'destroying the companions'. In the true sense, 'destroying the companions' refers to the pervasive afflictions, while the latent tendencies are called 'destroying the companions' because they are the latent tendencies of destroying the companions, hence they are called 'destroying the companions'. Among the six explanations, this is the explanation from the perspective of the owner. Therefore, it is called 'the latent tendencies of destroying the companions', which is just a conclusion, merely a connecting word. The latent tendencies of weak power, such as the subtle parts of pervasiveness in the sixth and seventh grounds, and the state of not arising if suppressed by meditation, this is the explanation of the second type of latent tendencies of weak power. This sutra passage can also be divided into three parts: the statement of the name, the indication of the state, and the explanation of the name itself. Among them, 'the latent tendencies of weak power' is the statement of the name, and this is also the explanation from the perspective of the owner, which should be understood as before. 'Having subtle parts of pervasiveness in the sixth and seventh grounds' refers to the indication of the state, because it relies on the previous reasoning, it is called 'subtle'. 'If suppressed by meditation, it does not transform' refers to the indication of the meaning of the name of weakness. Among them, 'if' is an uncertain word, for example, some Bodhisattvas consume afflictions below the seventh ground.

Because there are also cases where it is not overcome, it arises universally here. Some Bodhisattvas are overcome and do not arise, because there are such uncertain cases. If it is said "if," it is said thus: Even if it arises universally, it is said to be of weak power. Why is that? Because if it is suppressed by meditation, it will not arise universally. The explanation of the meaning of the name "weak power" should be understood as before. Extremely subtle latent predispositions are like this: for the eighth ground and those above it, all afflictions also do not arise universally, and they abide only with the obscuration of knowledge. This is the explanation of the third, extremely subtle latent predisposition. These words of the sutra are also divided into three aspects: stating the name, indicating the state, and explaining the meaning of the name. Among these, "extremely subtle latent predisposition" is stating the name. "For example, the eighth ground" is indicating the state. "Those above it," and so forth, are showing the meaning of the name "extremely subtle." This also has two causes: first, all afflictions do not arise universally above the eighth ground, because they always abide in yoga at all times. Even if they enter into yoga, there is also the attainment that prevents the similar cause from arising universally. Therefore, all afflictions do not arise at all times. Second, it is because they abide only with the obscuration of knowledge. Like this, there are no afflictions above the eighth ground, because it is the abiding of contaminated dharmas such as the obscuration of knowledge that is only together with the afflicted mind. Another explanation is that although there is no affliction that abides in universal arising, there is the obscuration of knowledge that should abide in universal arising. Because of these two causes, although there is a seed, it is difficult to know its characteristics, so it is said to be "extremely subtle." This latter cause is also said in the Samdhinirmocana Sutra to be the extremely subtle obscuration of all objects.
