It also shows this. Furthermore, it is also said therein that the bodhisattva who is before the earth can also subdue the afflictions, but is not subdued by the afflictions, which is a mistake of the translators. Chapter Sixty-Four. Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara also said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, those who have the latent tendencies of afflictions, from this onwards, rely on the third to show the arising of pāramitā, and the distinction of the obscurations of the unfavorable factors, latent tendencies, and so on. This is also divided into four types: distinguishing the number of latent tendencies, distinguishing by abandoning the evil realms, distinguishing the time of abandoning the evil realms, the afflictions of the bodhisattva, and distinguishing faults and virtues. This is the first distinction of the number of latent tendencies. This is also shown by asking and answering. This is the question. The accompanying latent tendencies are called latent tendencies because they follow the practice of yoga and are dormant and not corresponding. The Sarvāstivāda school believes that afflictions such as desire increase with respect to objects, so they are called latent tendencies. The Mahāsāṃghika school believes that manifest actions are called pervasive entanglements, and non-corresponding actions are called latent tendencies. It should be understood as stated in the treatises of the Sutra school. Saying so is unreasonable because it does not conform to the meaning of the name latent tendency. Therefore, the Sutra school and the treatises of the Mahayana say that the seed is called latent tendency. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: Son of good family, in short, there are three types, etc., which shows the second type of correct answer given by the Tathagata. This also has two types: first, state the number, then briefly answer, and then distinguish and explain in order. This is the first type, such as afflictions.

The seeds are many, but in short, there are three types, which is a summary term. The latent tendencies of completely destroying companions, such as the previous five grounds. Why is that? Because, son of the lineage, the afflictions that arise universally that are not co-emergent are companions to the co-emergent afflictions that arise universally, because at that time they are invisible and will not exist again, therefore it is called the latent tendency of completely destroying companions, and so on, which shows the second explanation that is separated according to the order. This is also divided into three types by explaining the three types of latent tendencies separately. This is the first separate explanation of the latent tendency of completely destroying companions. The words of this sutra are also divided into five types: the general indication of the name, the indication of the situation, the examination, the accurate separate explanation, and the indication of the conclusion. Among them, what is called the latent tendency of completely destroying companions is the general indication of the name. For example, the previous five grounds, this is the indication of the situation. Why is that? This is the examination. Son of the lineage, and so on, is the accurate separate explanation of the meaning of the name. If combined with the treatises of the Mahayana, all afflictions will be reduced to two types: co-emergent and conceptually arisen. Among them, the conceptually arisen are the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of seeing. The co-emergent are the afflictions to be abandoned by the path of meditation, so it is explained. Therefore, in the treatises of the Mind-Only school, self-grasping is reduced to two types: co-emergent and universally imputed. Among them, the co-emergent self-grasping is because of the power of the habitual cause of completely familiarizing with what is not true from beginningless time, it is always associated with the body, does not depend on wrong teachings and wrong discriminations, but arises naturally on its own, therefore it is called co-emergent, so it is said. In detail, it is as explained in that very text. Furthermore, in that very text, the universally imputed self-grasping is associated with the body because of the power of external conditions in the present.
