Absence of attachment, absence of discrimination, and complete dedication. Just as with generosity, it should be understood similarly with discipline and so on. Among these, absence of attachment refers to the absence of attachment to all phenomena that serve as the basis for generosity and so forth. In the Sutra of Liberation from Extremes, it says: 'This is the manifestation of clinging to things that are incompatible with the perfections.' In the Profound Meaning Unraveling Sutra, it also says that absence of attachment means: 'This is the manifestation of clinging to things that are incompatible with the perfections.' In Vasubandhu's Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, it says: 'Absence of attachment and complete purity means that phenomena incompatible with the perfections do not arise.' Among these, non-expectation means: 'There is no mental connection with the fruition of all the perfections and with repaying benefits.' This is the explanation of the nature of the second non-expectation, that is, giving generosity and so forth without expecting the results of the six perfections or repayment, is called non-expectation. The results of the six perfections should be understood as explained in the sutra below. In the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra, it also says: 'Among these, non-expectation means that there is no mental connection with wealth and its results.' Among these, the so-called absence of mental connection with wealth is what is stated in the sutra as the absence of mental connection with repaying benefits. In the Sutra of Liberation from Extremes, non-expectation means: 'There is no mental connection with the fruition of the perfections and with present gains.' In the Profound Meaning Unraveling Sutra, it says: 'Non-hope means that there is no seeking of the mind for the fruition of the perfections, enjoyment, and repaying benefits.' In the Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, non-expectation

Purity is like this: one does not constantly look with the mind for the fruition of one's own body and the perfections, and for repaying kindness. This is what is called purity. In the commentary on the Noble Diamond Cutter Perfection of Wisdom Sutra, it says: "Whatever is without manifest attachment to one's own body, to repaying kindness, and to fruition." This is what is stated as the two kinds of giving in the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice. Therefore, in the chapter on giving, it says: "What is giving without looking for repayment? A Bodhisattva who has a mind of compassion and loving-kindness does not expect to be helped by others when giving, because he sees beings in happy rebirths, burned by the fire of desire, powerless, and suffering by nature, and therefore gives. What is giving without looking for fruition? A Bodhisattva, having given, does not expect to have abundant enjoyment or a perfect body in the future, and does not expect the fruition of giving, because he sees all conditioned things as without essence and looks to supreme enlightenment as a benefit, and therefore gives." The extensive explanation of these characteristics should be understood according to the commentary composed by Master Vasubandhu and the commentary on the Noble Diamond Cutter Perfection of Wisdom Sutra composed by Master Guṇaprabha. Furthermore, being without fault is like this: those perfections are not mixed with all defiled dharmas, and whatever has completely abandoned non-skillful conduct is called the third characteristic of being without fault. There are two kinds of fault: the first is being mixed with all defiled dharmas, such as the four faults shown in the sutra below, such as actions without compassion. The second is non-skillful conduct, such as what is shown in detail in the sutra below, such as material assistance. Whatever giving is done after abandoning these two kinds is called being without fault. In the Treatise on the Stages of Yoga Practice, it says:
