Do. Furthermore, a brief explanation of the specific nature of the six perfections: As established in the treatise "Only Consciousness," the nature of the ten perfections is also like this. Generosity is non-attachment, and the nature of the three actions arising from it. Discipline is the nature of the three actions of a Bodhisattva properly taking vows. Patience is the absence of anger, diligence, definitive wisdom, and the nature of the three actions arising from them. Diligence is effort, and the nature of the three actions arising from it. Meditation is the nature of samadhi. The latter five are the nature of thoroughly distinguishing dharmas. That is its root, and subsequent wisdom. Details are as shown therein. Extensive differentiation should be understood as arising from the teachings on characteristics. Sixty fascicles. The Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara again asked the Blessed One: "Blessed One, why are those perfections called perfections?" From here onwards is the eighth chapter, called "The Gate Showing the Obtaining of the Name of Perfection." This also shows the asking and the answering. That is, first asking why they are called perfections. The general and specific names are as shown above. This is because of what cause and condition, and for what reason, the name 'perfection' is obtained. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara: "Son of good family, because of five causes and conditions," and so on, this shows the second, the Tathagata's true answer. This also has classification: briefly stating the number, listing the number, explaining the classification in order, and repeating the explanation as a basis for debate. This is the first brief statement of the number, that is, the final word that it is called perfection because of five causes. From the Sutra of Complete Liberation, it says there are five kinds.

The earth appeared. From the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it is said that there are five meanings. Because of non-attachment, because of non-expectation, because of faultlessness, because of non-discrimination, and because of perfect dedication. This is the second, arranging the names according to the numbers. From the Sutra of Boundary Liberation, it is said to be beginningless, faultless, non-discriminating, and dedicated. From the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it is said to be non-attachment and non-expectation, faultless, non-discriminating, and dedicated. From the commentary, only the names are arranged, but there is no explanation. Therefore, from that commentary itself, it is said that the perfection of generosity is called perfection because it possesses five qualities: giving without attachment, giving without expectation, giving without fault, giving without discrimination, and giving with perfect dedication. Just as with generosity, so too should it be understood from ethics to wisdom. Among these, non-attachment is like this: whatever attachment appears towards things that are incompatible with the perfections, and so on, this is the third, showing the explanation that is separated and explained in order. This is also divided into five types because it shows the five types of causes. This is the first to show the characteristic of non-attachment. Whatever obscurations are incompatible with the six perfections are called incompatible things, because there is no attachment to those incompatible things. The extensive explanation of the six obscurations should be understood as it is said in the sutra below. From the Yogācārabhūmi Śāstra, things also appear that are in accordance with what is said in this sutra. Therefore, from that commentary itself, it is said that the generosity of bodhisattvas, in short, if it possesses five qualities, it belongs to the category of the perfection of generosity. What are the five? They are non-attachment, non-expectation, and faultlessness.
