Regarding the antidote to afflictions and suffering, the samadhi called abiding in comfort, because it becomes the antidote to afflictions and suffering, and has obtained mastery over supernormal knowledge, therefore one can abide in comfort in the present dharma. In the commentary on the Compendium of Mahayana, translated by Lang gi tsé, it is said that because this samadhi completely eliminates all afflictions, one obtains a comfortable abode in this life. In the commentary written by Master Vasubandhu, it is said that by means of this samadhi, one can abide in comfort in the present dharma. The other two statements are merely expressions of the sutra itself. In the chapter on meditation in the Yogacarabhumi-sastra, it is said that there are three types of meditation: The meditation of abiding in comfort in this life is as follows: The meditation of the Bodhisattvas, which is free from all conceptual thoughts, generates extreme pliancy of body and mind, and is supremely tranquil, without arrogance, without experience, and free from all characteristics, this is their meditation of abiding in comfort in this life, and should be known. Furthermore, the meditation of the Bodhisattvas who manifest the qualities of samadhi is as follows: The meditation of the Bodhisattvas, which is able to accomplish various inconceivable and immeasurable samadhis encompassed by the lineage of the ten powers, and some samadhis are such that even the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas do not even know their names, how could they even enter into them? And so on, there is extensive explanation of this. The meditation of benefiting sentient beings is as follows: Bodhisattvas, relying on meditation, become friends to those who are engaged in the affairs of sentient beings, eliminate the suffering of sentient beings, proclaim the right reason, repay kindness, give back to those who have benefited them, liberate them from fears, give resources to those who have no resources, skillfully gather a virtuous retinue, accord with their minds, delight them with true qualities, skillfully subdue them, and frighten them with miracles,

It is said that it is wanting, just as it is explained in detail there. In the commentary composed by Master Vasubandhu, it says that the Samadhi of dwelling in bliss makes one dwell in bliss in the present Dharma. The Samadhi of manifest attainment makes one manifest the six superknowledges. The Samadhi of accomplishing activities makes one accomplish activities that benefit sentient beings, so it is said. In the commentary by Master Asanga, it says that the Samadhi of dwelling is for dwelling in bliss in the present Dharma, because it abandons pride, views, and craving, and attains purity. The Samadhi of manifest attainment is for manifesting excellent qualities such as the six superknowledges. The Samadhi of accomplishing activities is for benefiting sentient beings, and for pacifying the fears of famine and disease, so it is said. In the treatise Compendium of Abhidharma, it says that dwelling in bliss in the present Dharma, manifesting superknowledges, and benefiting sentient beings are, in order, combined with the three kinds of holding, without any fatigue, with the complete fulfillment of intentions, and with the activity of subduing retinues. The commentary on the Mahayana-samgraha, translated by Lang gi Tshe, also mostly agrees with what is said in the commentary composed by Master Vasubandhu. Because it is too much, it is not mentioned here. In the treatise Ornament of the Sutras, three kinds are taught, such as with conceptualization. The three kinds of wisdom are the wisdom that focuses on the conventional truth, the wisdom that focuses on the ultimate truth, and the wisdom that focuses on the benefit of sentient beings, which is called the sixth, the teaching of the three kinds of wisdom. In the treatise Yogacarabhumi-sastra, it says that there are two kinds of wisdom. The first three kinds of wisdom are the wisdom that thoroughly understands and realizes the knowable as it is, the five sciences, the wisdom that is skilled in the three aggregates, and the wisdom that benefits all sentient beings, so it is said, the first

The former is focused on suchness. The middle is focused on its own meaning. The latter is focused on conventional truth and benefits others. Among these, the five sciences are the five, including inner science. The three aggregates are the aggregate of meaningful dharmas, the aggregate of meaningless dharmas, and the aggregate of dharmas that are neither meaningful nor meaningless. Among these, the latter three wisdoms are the wisdom that knows the profound absence of self of phenomena. The wisdom that knows the means of taming sentient beings, and the wisdom that knows that there is no obstruction to all knowable things. The first is the knowledge of the emptiness of phenomena. The middle is the knowledge of the emptiness of the person. The latter is the wisdom that manifests the two emptinesses. From the treatises established as only consciousness, it is said that there is the wisdom of the emptiness of sentient beings, the emptiness of phenomena, and the emptiness of both. From the treatise "Compendium on the Great Vehicle," it is said that there is the wisdom of application and the wisdom of subsequent attainment. From the treatise that explains the three natures of non-inherent existence, the non-conceptual application wisdom is like this: it is the wisdom that meditates on suchness, which is superior to the means in front. Non-conceptual wisdom is like this: it is the wisdom that meditates on suchness. The subsequent non-conceptual wisdom is like this: it is the knowledge of the limits of realization, all conventional truths, teaching the Dharma, and so on, which is the teaching of various things. From the "Compendium of All Treatises," it is said that the wisdom that focuses on conventional truth and the wisdom that focuses on sentient beings are respectively combined with the three teachers: entering the ground, realizing the Buddha's Dharma, and accomplishing the Buddha's activities. Each of the six perfections has three kinds of distinctions, which are widely explained in the commentary on the "Compendium on the Great Vehicle," translated at the time of Lanka, and in the "Differentiation Treatise." Because of concern for prolixity, it is not mentioned. Therefore, if it is said that the teachings are so different, the meaning is not just one kind, but each has spoken of its own meaning, so there is no contradiction between them.
