The three kinds of patience are: patience without resentment towards harm, patience without minding suffering, and patience with निश्चित (Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) regarding the Dharma. Thus, the third section shows the three kinds of patience. In the Patience chapter of the Treatise on the Grounds of Yogic Practice, there are three kinds of patience: Patience without minding harm done is like this: When a Bodhisattva experiences unbearable, continuous, various, and long-lasting suffering arising from harm done by others, he trains himself correctly in this way: 'This is the retribution of my own karma. Therefore, I am experiencing such a painful result of my own unwholesome actions.' And so on, as extensively explained in that treatise. Furthermore, in that same treatise, the Bodhisattva's patience in accepting suffering is like this: The Bodhisattva trains himself correctly in this way: 'In the past, I dwelt in indulging in desires and sought after desires everywhere. Knowing that they were the cause of suffering, I engaged in agriculture, commerce, and serving kings for the sake of desires that are by nature suffering, and I experienced many unbearable sufferings. Since that is the case, accepting and experiencing those sufferings in the past was meaningless. Because, knowing that it was suffering, I experienced great suffering due to the fault of ignorance. Now, knowing that I am engaged in virtuous deeds that bring happiness, what does it matter to accept and experience suffering that is a hundred thousand times greater than that? Not to mention smaller sufferings.' The Bodhisattva thus properly directs his mind towards engaging in Bodhi and accepts all the suffering that arises from it. Furthermore, the Bodhisattva's patience of believing in निश्चित (Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Romanization, Chinese literal meaning) regarding the Dharma is like this: The Bodhisattva

That is patience arising from harm done by others. Patience that does not mind suffering is truly enduring much suffering. Patience that necessarily contemplates the Dharma means being able to individually contemplate all Dharmas, as explained in detail in that very text. In his commentary, Master Vasubandhu says: Among these, patience that does not mind harming is the cause of not turning back from fully ripening sentient beings. The second is the cause of not turning back from Buddhahood itself, because it is not shaken by sufferings such as cold, heat, hunger, and thirst. Patience that necessarily contemplates the Dharma is the basis of the first two patiences, because it can endure profound and vast Dharmas. In the translation of the *Mahāyānasaṃgraha* into the Laṅkāvatāra, it is also shown to be mostly in accordance with that. In the commentary composed by Master Vasubandhu, and in the *Abhidharmasamuccaya*, the names of the three patiences appear in accordance with what is said in this sutra, namely: not abandoning sentient beings, abandoning inferior minds, and patience towards the Dharma of non-arising, and it is clearly shown that these three patiences are completely upheld. The three kinds of diligence are: armor-like diligence, diligence in applying oneself to accumulating virtuous Dharmas, and diligence in applying oneself to the benefit of sentient beings. This is the fourth topic, the explanation of the three kinds of diligence. In the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, it says: diligence of great aspiration, diligence of skillful means, and diligence of benefiting sentient beings. In the *Profound Secrets Unveiled Sutra*, it says: diligence of generating the mind, diligence of meditating on virtuous Dharmas, and diligence of benefiting sentient beings. In the chapter on diligence in the *Yogācārabhūmi*, it says that there are three kinds of diligence: armor-like diligence is as follows: Here, the Bodhisattva, abiding in the object of applying himself to initiating diligence, before arousing joy in his mind, first puts on such armor:
