It is as stated in that very scripture. The treatise "Encompassing Matters" also states in accordance with what is taught in the "Yogācārabhūmi". This shows that after differentiation, one gathers the other. If we combine what is taught in the treatises with the scriptures, each of the six perfections also shows mutual gathering. Therefore, each of the three trainings also gathers the six perfections. In the treatise "Compendium of the Great Vehicle", it says: If asked how one should view the mutual determination of these six perfections? The Blessed One, in some places, explained all perfections as the meaning of generosity, and in some places, explained them as the meaning up to wisdom. What is the intention behind this? Combining all six perfections means that these all go into the practice of everything. It is extensively taught in that very scripture. This shows that one gathers the other from the perspective of a companion. Since the summaries of the scriptures are not the same, the treatise "Treatise on Consciousness-Only" starts from four meanings and explains mutual gathering: gathering by nature, gathering by companion, gathering after action, and gathering after differentiation. Therefore, it says in that very treatise: If gathering by nature, then discipline only gathers discipline, meditation only gathers meditation, and wisdom gathers the latter five. This shows mutual gathering starting from the ten perfections. Being with a companion also has mutual gathering. If gathering after action, then discipline gathers the first three, namely: the nature of assembly, self, and retinue. Samadhi gathers meditation, and wisdom gathers the latter five. Starting from the perspective of the ten perfections, diligence is explained as being gathered by the three, because it can arouse the three. If gathering after differentiation, then discipline gathers as before. The first three are as previously stated, because it is complete protection. Equanimity...

Because it is said in the sutra that concentration gathers meditative stabilization, and wisdom gathers the other five perfections. The holy scriptures each state a single meaning, so there is no contradiction between them. The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara again said to the Blessed One: Blessed One, among those six bases to be learned, which are gathered by the accumulation of merit, and which are gathered by the accumulation of wisdom? From here on, it is the third part, showing the gate of distinguishing the gathering into the accumulations of merit and wisdom. This also shows the asking and the answering, and this is the asking itself. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara: Son of good family, whatever is gathered by the training in higher morality is called being gathered by the accumulation of merit. Whatever is gathered by the training in higher wisdom is called being gathered by the accumulation of wisdom. I have shown that the two, diligence and meditative stabilization, are all-pervasive, which is the second part, showing that the Tathagata has correctly answered. Like this, among the six perfections, the first three are merit, the last one is the accumulation of wisdom, and the remaining two belong to both accumulations. The explanation of the sutra's words is just as it is taught in the treatise "The Land of Yoga Practice," therefore it says therein: What is merit? What is wisdom? Merit, in short, is the three perfections, namely the perfections of generosity, discipline, and patience. Wisdom is only one, namely the perfection of wisdom. The perfection of diligence and the perfection of meditative stabilization should be understood as belonging to both the side of merit and the side of wisdom, relying on diligence to give generosity, to correctly take and protect discipline, to cultivate loving-kindness and other immeasurables, or whatever is similar to that, that is the diligence of the side of merit. Relying on diligence to listen and think.

It is also applied to the wisdom of meditation. Whoever is skilled in the aggregates, etc., that is called diligence in the aspect of wisdom. Relying on meditation, giving alms, or perfectly taking and guarding the precepts, or meditating on immeasurable things such as love, or whatever is similar to that, that is meditation in the aspect of merit. Relying on meditation, listening, thinking, and applying to the wisdom of meditation, and whoever is skilled in various aggregates, etc., that is called meditation in the aspect of wisdom. This is what is said in the sutra. The Sutra of Excellent Discipline and the Treatise The All-Encompassing Earth, and the Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle by Master Vasubandhu, and the translation of Langage, mostly explain in accordance with the teachings of the Yogacara school. These two accumulations of merit and wisdom, first the meaning of the names was briefly explained, and then it will be explained how they mutually include each other. Among them, the meaning of the name is that it produces the fruit of merit and acts as the cause of merit, therefore it is called the accumulation of merit. It produces the fruit of wisdom and acts as the cause of wisdom, therefore it is called the accumulation of wisdom. Among them, the reason for calling it "accumulation" is that in the Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle translated by Langage, it is said that it is called accumulation for the sake of the meaning of manifesting. Therefore, in that commentary it is said that these two, merit and wisdom, have two kinds of power: becoming a companion of enlightenment and realizing the nature of enlightenment. Because it is through these two ways that manifestation is achieved, these two are called the accumulation of enlightenment. In the Commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle by Master Asanga, it is said that it is called accumulation for the sake of accumulating. Therefore, in that commentary it is said that it is called accumulation because it has been accumulating since countless eons. In the Treatise on the Exposition of the Accumulation of Enlightenment, it is explained through five meanings, namely, the meaning of completeness.
