This is the teaching called "The Door of Differentiation." It also has two aspects: the request and the teaching of the answer. This is the very first request. The Blessed One spoke to the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, saying: "Son of good family, the first three should be understood as being included in the training of higher morality. Samādhi is included in the training of higher mind. Wisdom is included in the training of higher wisdom. I have shown that diligence goes everywhere." This is the second, the Thus-Gone One's perfect answer. Thus, according to ability, it is said that morality includes the first three. Whatever is the collection of morality is the nature of morality and belongs to the retinue of morality. Wisdom is the training of higher wisdom, and it is said so in all the scriptures, so this sūtra expresses it. Diligence pervades all three, because it is what trains in the three trainings. In the Sūtra of Complete Liberation of Boundaries and the Sūtra of Profound Unraveling of Intent, what is said in this sūtra also appears in accordance with it. In the Sūtra Teaching Excellent Morality, it is said: "Higher morality includes the perfection of morality. Higher mind includes the perfection of samādhi. Higher wisdom includes the perfection of wisdom." If it is said like that, why would it be different from this sūtra? Answer: There are many meanings in mutual inclusion, so first the three trainings are taught, and then the differences of mutual inclusion are taught. The so-called three trainings are from the commentary on the Compendium of the Great Vehicle, composed by the teacher Vasubandhu. As it says: "Higher morality is like this: because it is taught and learned by the ten grounds, it is called higher morality. Whatever vows of Bodhisattvas there are, it is the mind that does not do what is unwholesome. Higher mind is like this: because it is where the mind abides, or because it is learned based on the mind, it is called higher mind, that is, samādhi.

What are they? Higher wisdom is like this: because it is the wisdom that goes to manifest, it is called higher wisdom, or because it is learned based on wisdom, it is called higher wisdom, which is non-conceptual wisdom, so it is said. Among them, "higher" means supreme and sacred, therefore, in the treatise "Yogacarabhumi," it is said that only in this teaching of the Buddha are these three trainings, because it is not common with outsiders, so this is the meaning of higher and the meaning of being able to be independent, so it is said, in detail, as it is said in that. The extensive explanation of the three trainings is the commentary on the "Mahāyānasaṃgraha," which was made by the teacher Asanga and translated at the time of Laṅka, as well as the "Treatise Differentiation," "Yogacarabhumi," "Abhidharmasamuccaya," "Saṃyukta Āgama," "Vimsatika," and "Mahāyānasaṃgraha," as it is said. Among them, the difference of showing each other containing each other is also said in the "Śīlaskandha Sutra," that morality contains higher morality, meditation contains higher mind, and wisdom contains higher wisdom. There is no combination with other perfections, therefore, in this sutra itself, it is said that there are three kinds of morality in the six perfections, namely, morality that follows morality, morality that follows mind, and morality that follows wisdom. Among them, the perfection of morality is called morality that follows morality. The perfection of meditation is called morality that follows mind. The perfection of wisdom is called morality that follows wisdom. It is said that this is one containing the other by nature. In the "Vimuktakṣetra Sutra" and the "Saṃdhinirmocana Sutra," it is also said that the first three contain higher morality, morality

It is because it is the collection of precepts, the nature of precepts, and the retinue of precepts. Samadhi gathers higher mind. Wisdom gathers higher wisdom. Diligence goes everywhere to the three, and it is said that the three trainings are for the purpose of arising. This is one encompassing one in terms of action. The treatise Ornament of the Sutras also explains that it is in accordance with what is said in this sutra of meaning. Therefore, in the verses of that very text, it says: The first three are two kinds, one and three. This comes from its own explanation: Among them, the first three refer to the first three paramitas. Two kinds means that the first three paramitas become two kinds: collection and retinue. Precepts are the collection, and generosity and patience are the retinue. One means that the first three and the second are the first of the three trainings, which is the training of precepts. The latter two refer to the latter two paramitas, the paramita of meditation and the paramita of wisdom. Again, two kinds means that the latter two paramitas are, in order, the trainings of higher mind and wisdom. One refers to the paramita of diligence, which is the only one. Three means that this single paramita pervades all three trainings. The treatise Stages of Yoga Practice says that the first four gather higher precepts. The sixth gathers higher wisdom. Therefore, in that very treatise, it says: The collection, nature, retinue, and universal protection of the four paramitas are to be known as the complete training of higher precepts for bodhisattvas. The paramita of meditation is to be known as the complete training of higher mind. The paramita of wisdom is to be known as the complete training of higher wisdom.
