In the commentary on the Buddha Bhumi Sutra, the sutra source indicated by the Sutra Requested by Arya Mati Sagara is the chapter called 'Bodhisattva Mati Sagara' in the Arya Mahasamucchaya Sutra. Therefore, in that very sutra, it says: 'Son of good family, for example, a bhikshu who wishes to enter cessation samadhi makes a vow beforehand, saying, "If I hear the sound of the ghanta being struck, I should arise from the samadhi." Having made this vow, while abiding in the samadhi of entering into concentration, even if there is no sound of the ghanta, nevertheless, due to the power of the previous aspiration, the sound of the ghanta being struck will cause him to arise from the samadhi.' Furthermore, Bodhisattva Manjushri said to the Bhagavan, 'Bhagavan, does the nirmanakaya of the Tathagata have mind, or does it not have mind?' From this point onwards is the second part, which shows that the nirmanakaya of the Tathagata has mind. Here, there are also four aspects: questioning, answering, examining, and explaining. This is the questioning itself. The term 'nirmanakaya' refers to the enjoyment of others and the collection of nirmanakayas, because it is similar to a nirmanakaya. Do these two kayas have mind, or do they not have mind? This is a term of inquiry. The Bhagavan said to Bodhisattva Manjushri, 'Son of good family, it is neither with mind nor without mind.' This is the second part, where the Tathagata briefly answers, 'It cannot be said to be with mind, nor can it be said to be without mind.' Why is that? This is the third part, examining the reason. Although it was said to be with or without mind, the reason was not explained, so here it is examined. It is because there is no mind that relies on itself, and there is mind that relies on others.' This is the fourth part, where the Tathagata correctly explains. Among these, the mind that relies on itself is the mind of the aspect of seeing, because the agent of self-objectification arises relying on the seed of the aspect of seeing. The mind that relies on others is the mind of the aspect of causal signs, the aspect of seeing

It arises dependent on the mind, because it does not take an object as a condition. The intention of the answer given here is as follows: Because there is no mind with the aspect of correct view, it is said that there is no mind that relies on itself. Because there is a mind with the aspect of a reason that relies on others, it is shown that it is not permissible to say that it does not exist. Therefore, in the treatises established as only consciousness, the emanation body and the other enjoyment body do not have a true mind and mental factors, but they appear like mind and mental phenomena. Because the power of the miraculous power of the unsurpassed Bodhi is extremely inconceivable, it emanates and shows formless dharmas. If it were not so, how would the Tathagata show attachment and hatred, etc., since they have already been completely abandoned? How can the Shravakas and animals, etc., know the true mind of the Tathagata? Because even Bodhisattvas in equanimity cannot know it. Therefore, it is said in the sutras that countless kinds are emanated, and all are shown as if they have minds, as stated in the Mahaparinirvana Sutra, etc. Furthermore, the wisdom of accomplishing the deeds of the Tathagata is to show three kinds of activities, as stated in the Holy Buddha Land Sutra, etc. Furthermore, it is said that the emanation has a mind that relies on others, because it appears as a cause based on the true mind of others, as stated in this sutra, etc. Although it is said that the emanation body does not have senses and mind, etc., this is said from the perspective of others, not from the perspective of the Tathagata. Furthermore, the colored senses, mind, and mental phenomena of the emanation body do not have the power of senses, etc., so it is not shown as existing, as is mostly shown in the commentary on the Holy Buddha Land Sutra. In the Sutra of Separating the Boundaries, it says: The emanation body of the Tathagata has a mind.

Ma. There is no mind. The Bhagavan said to Manjushri: There is no mind because the mind has no autonomy. It comes from the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning. Should the emanation body emanated by the Tathagata be said to have a mind, or should it be said to have no mind? The Bhagavan said: It is not right to say it has a mind, nor is it right to say it has no mind. Why is that? Because one cannot control one's own mind, it is said to have no mind. Because it depends on the power of others, it is said to have a mind. The Bodhisattva Manjushri again asked the Bhagavan in this way: Bhagavan, what is the conduct of the Tathagata, and what is the realm of the Tathagata? What is the difference between the two? From this point onwards is the second, showing the nature of the difference in the conduct of the Tathagata. This also has two aspects, the request and the answer. This is the initial request. The Bhagavan said to the Bodhisattva Manjushri: Son of good family, the conduct of the Tathagata is like this: the Tathagatas commonly possess in all aspects, adorned with inconceivable qualities and immeasurable qualities, what is the pure Buddha-field, etc. This is the second, showing the Tathagata's correct answer. This also has two aspects: detailed explanation and conclusion. The detailed explanation is also divided into two aspects: detailed explanation of conduct and detailed explanation of realm. This is the initial detailed explanation of conduct, like this, the inconceivable that the Tathagatas commonly possess, adorned with immeasurable qualities such as power and fearlessness, what is the pure Buddha-field, that is called the conduct of the Tathagata. This is from the Sutra of the Holy Buddha Land, showing that it has the eighteen perfections of adornment. Therefore, from the Sutra of the Holy Buddha Land, etc., the immeasurable great palace is blazing with seven kinds of jewels.
