Regarding the six types of uncertain reasons, the first five are correct, and the sixth, "mutual contradiction is certain," is due to a lack of understanding. This has been previously explained in the *Entrance to the Correct Reasoning Treatise*, which outlines the six characteristics of uncertain reasons. Afterward, that treatise should be combined with this passage of scripture. The *Entrance to the Correct Reasoning Treatise* states: There are six types of uncertain reasons: common, uncommon, partially included in the similar side and fully included in the dissimilar side, partially included in the dissimilar side and fully included in the similar side, partially included in both sides, and mutually contradictory as certain. Among these, an example of a common reason is: sound is permanent because it is of the nature of being measurable. Saying this, for both the permanent and impermanent sides, this reason is common, therefore it is uncertain. For example, like a pot, because it is of the nature of being measurable, sound is impermanent. Also, like space, because it is of the nature of being measurable, sound is permanent. Among these, an example of an uncommon reason is: sound is permanent because it is of the nature of being audible. Saying this, for both the permanent and impermanent sides, this reason is excluded, belonging neither to the permanent nor the impermanent, therefore it is a cause of doubt. For example, what is the nature of being audible like, and so on. Among these, an example of being partially included in the similar side and fully included in the dissimilar side is: sound is not produced by effort because it is impermanent, produced without interruption. Among these, the assertion regarding effort and not being produced without interruption is this: for example, lightning and space are similar sides because they are impermanent; lightning and so on exist, while space and so on do not. The assertion regarding not being produced by effort but being produced without interruption is: for example, whatever is a pot and so on is a dissimilar side, because that reason is fully present, therefore lightning and a pot are of the same nature, thus it is also uncertain. Like a pot and so on, because it is impermanent, it is so.

It is produced by effort and without interruption. Like lightning, it is impermanent, so it is not produced by effort but without interruption. Among them, one part of the different aspects is included, and all the similar aspects are included, for example, sound is produced by effort and without interruption, because it is impermanent. To assert that it is produced by effort and without interruption is like this, such as a vase, etc., is a similar aspect, because it is impermanent, and these are fully possessed. Lightning and space, etc., are not different aspects, because one aspect of them, lightning, exists, while space, etc., does not exist, therefore it is uncertain as before. Among them, one part of both aspects is included, such as saying that sound is permanent, because it is formless and unobstructed. Among them, what is asserted to be permanent is like space. Atoms, etc., are similar aspects, because they are unobstructed, space, etc., exist, while atoms, etc., do not exist. Vases and happiness, etc., are different aspects, because happiness, etc., exists, while vases, etc., do not exist, therefore this reason is happiness and space do not have the same dharma, so it is called uncertain. Among them, what is determined to be mutually contradictory is, for example, asserting that sound is impermanent, because it is the nature of being made. For example, establishing a permanent sound on vases, etc., because it is the nature of being audible. For example, like the nature of sound, both of these are mind

The entry of a part of the opposite side and the entry of a part of the similar side are included. Apart from that, with the characteristic of observing dissimilarity, the fourth different aspect arising from the treatise enters into a part, and all similar aspects enter, and the fifth aspect, the entry of a part of both sides, and the entry of a part of the different aspect are spoken of. With the characteristic of observing all similarities, the first common uncertainty arising from the treatise is spoken of. With the characteristic of observing all dissimilarities, the second uncommon uncertainty arising from the treatise is included. So it is said. If combined with this explanation, there are two kinds of explanations for the characteristic of observing the near establishment by the example of other kinds. Some say that there are only dissimilar examples, but there are no similar examples. For example, if it is established that sound is permanent, it is because it is made. So it is said. Some say that this itself is an example with ten faults. The characteristic of not being universally known is that the meaning of the vow is not completely established by the faults established above. The characteristic of a very impure scripture is this: that which is manifestly established by a non-holy scripture. Some say that among the five characteristics mentioned in the Sutra, the first is the third arising from the treatise, in which one similar aspect enters and all different aspects enter. The second characteristic mentioned in the Sutra is the fourth arising from the treatise, in which a part of the different aspect enters, and all similar aspects are included. The third characteristic mentioned in the Sutra is the first common determination arising from the treatise. The fourth characteristic mentioned in the Sutra is the second uncommon uncertainty arising from the treatise. The fifth characteristic mentioned in the Sutra is the fifth arising from the treatise, in which a part of both sides enters. So it is said that the explanation of this teacher is as follows: If the Dharma of the example of other kinds is to be completed by observing a small part of the Dharma of the cause, it is said that in the Dharma of similar and dissimilar examples, each from the cause
