And, in order to distinguish the general characteristics, and, in order to distinguish the cause and effect, and, in order to distinguish the realms and beings, virtue and non-virtue, and the unstated, etc., the distinctions of aspects are immeasurable. Among them, there are three kinds of time: past, future, and present. Thus, knowing all realms, all things, all aspects, and all times is called the All-Knowing One. As it is stated in the Noble Sutra of Excellent Discipline and the Treatise of Universal Holding of the Earth. Here, the commentary on the Noble Perfection of Wisdom, and what is derived from one scripture, and what is derived from various scriptures, the characteristics of the All-Knowing One are explained by the eleven dharmas of tending cattle, and also in the commentary on the Noble Perfection of Wisdom, the teachings such as the pigeon will attain Buddhahood in a very long time, etc., are also accomplished as the All-Knowing One, so they should be mentioned as sources. The Blessed One said to the Bodhisattva Manjushri: "Son of good family, in short, there are five kinds," from this point onwards, it shows that the Tathagata has truly answered. This also shows the summary, the detailed explanation, and the conclusion. This is first briefly stating the number and then briefly answering. Whatever happens, the sound that is known in the world as the All-Knowing One, etc., is the second explanation in order. This also divides the five characteristics, and this explanation itself divides them into five kinds. This is first explaining the universally known characteristic, therefore, in the detailed explanation of the treatise, it is stated that after the Buddha appeared in the world, the true sound of the All-Knowing One spread throughout the world. Having the thirty-two marks of a great person is the second characteristic of the great person's perfection. As it is said in the Great Commentary: "What is the meaning of a mark?" The answer is: It is the indication of a sign.

What is the meaning of a mark? The meaning of being excellent is the meaning of a mark. The meaning of being an auspicious symbol is the meaning of a mark. Why are there only thirty-two marks of a great person? Why neither more nor less? It is said: If the thirty-two marks adorn the body of a Buddha, then it becomes unparalleled in the world. If there are fewer than that, it becomes incomplete. If there are more than that, it becomes mixed and confused, and it becomes not excellent. Therefore, it is definite. Just as the Dharma taught by the Bhagavan has neither excess nor deficiency, so too are the marks of a Buddha. Because there is nothing incomplete, it cannot be increased; because there is nothing superfluous, it cannot be decreased. What is the difference between the thirty-two marks obtained by a Bodhisattva and the marks obtained by a Chakravartin king? It is said: A Bodhisattva is superior in four things: well-trained, clear, complete, and having obtained a place. Furthermore, it is superior in five things: having obtained a place, being extremely beautiful, having extremely deep lines, following sacred wisdom, and not following all afflictions. Why does a Bodhisattva adorn the body with marks? In order to be a place and vessel for unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Why is that? Because excellent qualities necessarily reside in an excellent body. Therefore, in order for a Bodhisattva to realize unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in the future, (the qualities) will say to the Bodhisattva: If you want me to reside in your body, first your body must be completely pure and excellent, and adorned with marks and signs. If it is not so, I will not be able to arise in your body. For example, someone takes a precious woman as his wife and wants to bring her home, so he secretly sends a messenger, saying: If you want to come to my house, first...
