Some say that there is no difference between the two knowledges. Some say that there is a difference. Some say that there is a difference. Therefore, in that commentary, it is asked, what is the difference between sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing) and sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge)? It is said that some say that there is no difference, so sometimes it is said to be sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing), and sometimes it is said to be sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge). Some say that the general characteristic is called sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing), and the specific characteristic is called sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge). What is the cause is called sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing). What is the result is called sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge). What is the brief indication is called sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing). What is the extensive explanation is called sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge). Among them, what is called sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing) destroys the ignorance that universally obscures all dharmas. What is called sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge) destroys the ignorance that separately conceptualizes various dharmas, from here to the extensive explanation. Furthermore, in the later chapter, the Blessed One himself said that what is called sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing) is the nature of the śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas. Knowing the aspects of the path is the nature of the bodhisattvas. Sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge) is the nature of the Buddhas. The śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas only have sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing), but not sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge). Furthermore, although the śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas have the practice of conceptualizing specific characteristics, they cannot fully know them, so they obtain the name of general characteristics. The sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing) and sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge) of the Buddhas are truly real, while the two vehicles have imputed names. If asked, what dharma is known by sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing)? The answer is that it is the twelve āyatanas, as explained extensively in that scripture. Furthermore, in that scripture, it is said that when the Blessed One attained the path, he attained sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing) and sarvākārajñāna (一切种智,一切种智,sarvākārajñana, all aspects of knowledge) through the knowledge of the path. Then why is it shown here that he possesses sarvajñāna (一切智,一切智,sarvajñana, all-knowing)? The answer is that when the Blessed One attained the path, from here on it is the path.

Although omniscience and the very nature of all-knowingness have been perfectly attained through wisdom, the very nature of all-knowingness is not put into practice. For example, if a great king receives empowerment, although he gains control over treasure vaults and the like, it is like they have not yet been opened or used. In this way, the very nature of all-knowingness has abandoned the imprints of afflictions, because it is intended to show the accomplishment of the Perfection of Wisdom. If one attains omniscience and the very nature of all-knowingness with a single mind and abandons the imprints of afflictions, then why is it shown here that omniscience attains the very nature of all-knowingness and then abandons the imprints of afflictions? Although they are attained at the same time, here it is to make others clearly understand the Perfection of Wisdom, and to show it gradually with different aspects, so that sentient beings may obtain a completely pure mind. Therefore, it is shown in that way. Furthermore, although it is attained with a single mind, there is also a sequence of first, middle, and last. For example, it is said that a single mind has two characteristics, such as abiding in cause and condition, and the arising that abides in the cessation of cause and condition. It is established in the treatise *Vijñāptimātratāsiddhi*, and it should be understood that they are mutually reversed from the teachings. In the commentary on the *Bodhisattvabhūmi*, it is said that it shows omniscience starting only from mirror-like wisdom, because it constantly understands all dharmas at all times. The details are as shown therein. In the treatise *Yogācārabhūmi*, it is said that it is because it is the wisdom of omniscience. Therefore, it says therein that the unhindered knowing and unimpeded access to all realms, all things, all aspects, and all times is called omniscience. Therein, there are two realms: the realm of the world and the realm of sentient beings. There are two kinds of things: conditioned and unconditioned. Regarding the conditioned and unconditioned things themselves, it is also to distinguish in detail the later and later aspects of their own characteristics.
