It appears in the interval of knowing within the ground. Volume Seventy-one. Entering is like this: the three times, the characteristic of the unconditioned, and the four conditions—these are called the characteristic of the sixth entering. Thus, because conditioned phenomena arise, abide, and perish in the three times, the three characteristics of the conditioned and the four conditions exist, and therefore one revolves in the world. In the treatise of detailed explanation, it says, "The continuity from before and after is not interrupted, what is manifest is clear and visible, it has a cause and is impermanent, changing into another form—this is called entering," it is said. The meaning of the four characteristics and the three times should be understood as the three characteristics and as karma arises. In the Sutra Distinguishing Boundaries, it says, "Birth is the three dhyanas, the three characteristics of the conditioned, and the four conditions." And in the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it says, "The characteristic is like this: the three characteristics of the conditioned and the four causes and conditions." This is a mistake of the translators. Reasoning should be understood as fourfold. From this point on, it is the seventh, showing the four reasonings. This is also divided into three: briefly stating the number, establishing the names as the number is stated, and explaining by dividing according to the order. This is the first: the reasoning of dependence, the reasoning of function, the reasoning of establishing validity, and the reasoning of the nature of phenomena—this is called the second, establishing the names as the number is stated. In the Sutra Distinguishing Boundaries, it says, "Establishment is fourfold: the establishment of becoming existent, the establishment of the object of action, the establishment by being a helper, and the establishment by dharma." In the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it says, "The characteristic of being in harmony should be understood as fourfold: the harmony of mutual dependence, the harmony of action, the harmony of arising that is in harmony with action, and the harmony of the nature of dharma." Among these, the reasoning of dependence is like this: what causes and what conditions

That the arising of conditioned things and the subsequent occurrence of naming are all called the logic of dependence. From here on, it shows the explanation divided according to the third order. This is also divided by four kinds of reasoning. From the explanation itself, it is divided into four kinds. This is the first, the explanation of the logic of dependence. This is shown by explanation and conclusion. The other three kinds of reasoning should also be understood in the same way. Thus, the phenomena of conditioned things depend on causes and conditions, and also depend on the collection of names, words, and letters, and therefore names and so on are called dependence. Therefore, in the Śrāvakabhūmi within the Yogācārabhūmi, it is said: In short, dependence is of two kinds: dependence on arising and dependence on imputation. Among them, dependence on arising is as follows: The arising of aggregates, which arises from which causes and which conditions, depends on those causes and those conditions. Dependence on imputation is as follows: The imputation of aggregates, which is imputed by which collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters, depends on those collections of names, collections of words, and collections of letters. That is the dependence on the arising and the dependence on the imputation of the aggregates. Whatever is the phenomenon of dependence is the logic of imputing the aggregates, as explained in detail therein. In the *Prātimokṣa Sūtra*, the *Saṃdhinirmocana Sūtra*, and the explanations of the treatises, it mostly agrees with what is said in the sūtras themselves, so not much explanation has been done. The logic of action is as follows: Whatever causes and conditions cause phenomena to be obtained, accomplished, or to function from those that have arisen, that is called the logic of action. This is the second, the explanation of the logic of action. The interpretation of this passage of the sūtra also varies. Some say that whatever is the seeing of the six objects by the six faculties is called obtaining.
