Looking for one's own body! He said, "If your body dwells in the forest, why do you seek your own body elsewhere?" It is said that he spoke thus. Therefore, arising from this, the perception of space will become manifest. This perception is the same cause as the previous samadhi, therefore it is called the Sphere of Infinite Space. The details are as shown therein. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is in accordance with the first category shown in the Great Commentary. It is in accordance with the Treatise on Correct Reasoning, and in the Exposition of the Doctrine, it is also in accordance with the first three categories shown in the Great Commentary. That which is called the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness is shown in two ways in the Great Commentary. Therefore, in that same treatise, by the power of practice alone, it is called the samadhi of the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness. For example, novice yogis initially focus on the characteristics of the six consciousnesses, such as the eye, which are completely pure. Having fully grasped these characteristics, they individually examine the characteristics of the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness through the inclination of symbolic perception, clearly understanding them, having previously focused on the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness, and relying on practice, in order to lead the second formless samadhi from higher to higher, it is therefore called the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness. Furthermore, because of being under the influence of the same cause, the samadhi is called the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness. For example, when that yogi arises from this samadhi, undoubtedly a perception similar to consciousness will arise, because he dwells in great delight in consciousness, therefore it is called the Sphere of Infinite Consciousness. The details are as shown therein. In the Abhidharmakosha, it is in accordance with the explanation of the first category. In the Exposition of the Doctrine, it is also in accordance with this. That which is called the Sphere of Nothingness is explained in five ways in the Great Commentary. Therefore,

Then, from that very place, why is this called the sphere of nothingness? It is said: Because there is no self or belonging to self in this. If there is no self or belonging to self in all places, why is this alone called nothingness? It is said: Because there is no power in any other place like this one to degenerate, penetrate, thin, and diminish the strength of clinging to self and belonging to self, therefore it is called the sphere of nothingness. Furthermore, even though this place has no dharma that is constantly abiding and unchanging, it is superior to others because it causes the view of permanence to degenerate, so this alone is called the sphere of nothingness. Furthermore, even though this has no dwelling place to rely on and take refuge in, it is superior to others because it suppresses the lack of protection, arrogance, laziness, and carelessness, so this alone is called the sphere of nothingness. Furthermore, this place has no endless characteristics of aspects, and it abandons its characteristics from the very beginning, so this alone is called the sphere of nothingness. The virtuous friend of the venerable Dbyig said this: Because the characteristics of aspects of grasping do not enter into this samadhi, just as what is not self is like things that are not related in any place or time, and there is no self related in any place or time, so this alone is called the sphere of nothingness. The detailed explanation is as shown in that very text. According to the treatise that accords with correct reasoning, whatever is manifestly accomplished from abandoning all fabrications by the power of aspiration is called the sphere of nothingness. In this way, since one views the immeasurable aspects as coarse and wavering, and generates this application in order to be disgusted with and abandon them, therefore this place is called a special abandonment, because one does not like to manifest the characteristics of aspects, and abandons the objects of the mind and abides in peace. The extensively explained treatise also speaks in accordance with this. Regarding the absence of perception and the absence of perception...
