Extensive Explanation of the Holy Profound Meaning Definitely Explained Sutra, Wen Tseg. Extensive Explanation of the Holy Profound Meaning Definitely Explained Sutra. Wen Tseg. The Holy Profound Meaning Definitely Explained Sutra. Chapter Twenty-Six. Furthermore, concerning those truly noble sentient beings who, from the very beginning, have not generated roots of virtue, have not completely purified obscurations, whose minds have not fully matured, have not cultivated much faith, and have not accumulated the two collections of merit and wisdom, from this point onward, the third stage, based on the states, explains the intention of establishing the three aspects of selflessness. This also has two aspects: first, based on the five states, it explains the selflessness of arising; and second, from "these are so" onwards, based on the states of conjunction and so forth, it explains the latter two selflessnesses. Furthermore, if expressed from the perspective of yoga, there are five states. As it is stated in the Treatise Establishing Consciousness Only: "If it is only consciousness, how can the five states be understood and entered?" First, the state of accumulation is like this: whatever is in accordance with the aspect of great vehicle meditation that is liberation. This refers to the period from the ten faiths to the ten dedications. Second, the state of application is like this: whatever is in accordance with the aspect of great vehicle meditation that is definite discernment. This refers to the tenth of the ten dedications, which is called complete taming of the mind. Third, the state of conception is like this: whatever bodhisattvas abide in on the path of seeing. Fourth, the state of meditation is like this: whatever bodhisattvas abide in on the path of meditation. Fifth, the state of culmination is like this: whatever abides in the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment. It is like this teaching. If we combine this with this, we can divide it into two types: first, starting from the five states, distinguishing the selflessness of arising. This is the first path of accumulation taught in the Treatise Establishing Consciousness Only, and the aspect of liberation before the ten faiths.

These are the places where the roots of virtue of the earth arise. The second is from the path of joining, etc., distinguishing the latter two without self-nature. This is the intermediate three stages taught in the scriptures established only in consciousness. The stage of no learning is not included, because there is no manifest action. This is the first, and it is also divided into three. Explaining the intention of the teachings, and from "I for those" onwards, explaining that it is truly spoken as it is liked, and from "After they hear this Dharma" onwards, explaining the benefits of teaching the Dharma. This is the first. That intention also has five stages. First, the stage of generating roots of virtue is like this: what is the generation of roots of virtue on the side of liberation before the ten faiths? The Dharma of generating roots of virtue on the side of liberation should be understood as stated in the Sutra of Teaching the Morality of the Virtuous. Second, the stage of purification is like this: the ten faiths, that is, to purify sinful deeds as much as possible. Therefore, in the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it is said, "The impure sinful deeds make the sinful deeds completely pure." The Sutra of Dependent Arising also says, "Because of abandoning the ignorance that is uncommon to ordinary beings in this Dharma, sinful deeds are not committed." Third, the stage of completely maturing the continuum is like this: what is it that the person of the ten wisdoms, by manifest trust, etc., completely matures the continuum? Therefore, in the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning, it is said, "Relying on it, in order to completely mature the roots of virtue." Fourth, the stage of cultivating much faith and understanding is like this: because those who abide in the ten kinds of conduct manifest much definite faith and understanding. Fifth, the stage of accumulating the collections of merit and wisdom is that those who abide in the ten kinds of dedication are of merit and wisdom.

It is for the sake of the perfection of the two accumulations. That is to say, those who have not generated roots of virtue, from generating roots of virtue to those who have not perfected the accumulations, for the sake of perfecting all the accumulations, it will be shown that the unborn is without self-nature. Another way of explaining it is to distinguish the differences between the five objects of the occasion of the words, but not to establish the five occasions and combine them with the forty minds, thus showing. The differences between the five objects are as shown above. I said that for their sake, starting from the unborn without self-nature, I will teach the Dharma, which is to show that the second is to truly speak the Dharma as desired. In this way, sentient beings from the very beginning have not understood the reason for the interdependence of all dharmas, so there is no cause for a true mind, clinging to their own production, therefore, the Bhagavan, starting from the unborn without self-nature, taught that all dharmas are born from causes, not from themselves, this is the concluding remark. After hearing this Dharma, they understand as much as they can that the formations of dependent origination are impermanent, unstable, unreliable, and subject to change, etc., this is the third benefit of the teaching. There are also four benefits, so it is divided into four from that: the benefit of understanding impermanence, the benefit of hating and being very disgusted, the benefit of turning away from sin and practicing virtue, and the benefit of perfecting the five objects. This is the first, so the Bhagavan, from ignorance as the condition for action to old age and death, all those that are said are not produced from Ishvara etc., just by saying this, sentient beings understand as much as they can that all dharmas are impermanent and unstable, because they know impermanence. In addition, unreliable is like Nirvana, because it is stable because it is away from birth and death.
