It is also said that one cannot attain unsurpassed perfect enlightenment. Furthermore, the Sutra Unraveling the Profound Meaning states that a Shravaka of the peaceful lineage who has manifestly attained the supreme meaning, even if all the Buddhas were to exert all their power to tame him, he would still abide in the essence of enlightenment and be unable to attain unsurpassed enlightenment, and I call him a peaceful Shravaka. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Sutra of the Bodhisattva Pitaka states that a being who is determined in the right is a vessel of the true Dharma, so whether the Tathagata teaches the Dharma or not, he will attain complete liberation. From the wrong path, a being who is determined is not a vessel of the true Dharma, so whether the Tathagata teaches the Dharma to him or not, he will never be able to attain liberation, so the Tathagata knows that that being is not a vessel of the Dharma as it is, and thus abandons him. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Sutra of the Noble Angulimala states that there are three kinds of assemblies of sentient beings, of which only the Shravaka Vehicle and the harmonious Mahayana assembly are curable and incurable. Among them, those who are determined in the wrong path are like those with great desires. Those who are determined in the right path are like the Tathagata, Bodhisattvas, and the Two Vehicles. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Sutra Teaching the Excellent Discipline states that there are four kinds of sentient beings to be tamed: those of the Shravaka lineage will attain the Shravaka path, those of the Pratyekabuddha lineage will attain the Pratyekabuddha path, those of the Buddha lineage will attain the Buddha path, and those of the gods and humans lineage will attain the happiness of gods and humans, these are called the four kinds. Thus it is said. Furthermore, the Sutra of Garland Bearer states that just as the great earth bears four kinds of burdens, what are the four? Namely, the great oceans, the mountains, the grasses and trees, and sentient beings. Similarly, a son or daughter of good family who upholds the true Dharma also bears like the great earth.

The great earth is exemplified by carrying four burdens. What are the four? They are: To lead sentient beings who are separated from virtuous friends, who are unlearned, and who practice non-dharma to cultivate the roots of virtue of gods and humans; to teach the Hearer Vehicle to those who are devoted to the Hearer Vehicle; to teach the Solitary Buddha Vehicle to those who are devoted to the Solitary Buddha Vehicle; and to teach the Great Vehicle to those who are devoted to the Great Vehicle. It is said. Furthermore, the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra says: "Those sentient beings who are destined to be of the Hearer Vehicle lineage, upon hearing this Dharma, will quickly attain their own uncontaminated ground. Those who are destined to be of the Solitary Buddha Vehicle lineage, upon hearing this Dharma, will quickly abide in their own vehicle and will surely be liberated. Those who are destined to be of the unsurpassed vehicle lineage, upon hearing this Dharma, will quickly attain unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. Those sentient beings who have not entered the realm of true faultlessness and are not destined for any of the three lineages will, upon hearing this Dharma, generate the mind for unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment." It is said. The commentary on the Holy Ten Sutras also explains it in a similar way. Furthermore, the Treatise on the Bodhisattva Grounds says: "To ripen individuals, in brief, there are four aspects: those of the Hearer lineage should be ripened by the Hearer Vehicle; those of the Solitary Buddha lineage should be ripened by the Solitary Buddha Vehicle; those of the Buddha lineage should be ripened by the Unsurpassed Vehicle; and those without lineage should be ripened by the happy path." It is taught. Furthermore, the Treatise on the Grounds of Yoga Practice says: "Those who are not of the nature of completely passing into Nirvana say, 'We do not have the seeds of the three types of enlightenment.'" Furthermore, it says in the same text: "The individual who abides in the state of being without lineage is called one who is not of the nature of eternally passing into Nirvana." Such teachings are given. Furthermore, it says in the same text: "For whom should the condition that focuses on Suchness be understood?
